Hemingway watches

Post by 425ranger » Sat Jul 29, 2023 8:52 am

I just saw this,

A nice looking, veeery over priced, watch sold only on the island. Kinda cool for 1/2 the price.

I'm pretty sure the Hemingway estate must have recently released a copyright or something....in the last several months, I am seeing EVERYTHING Hemingway. From new rums + spirits to clothes, hats, aftershaves, pens and now watches.

I owned a CyS pen and watch years ago. They need to be held to be appreciated. Wonderful attention to detail. I've owned pens from Montblanc, Cartier, S.T. Dupont, Waterman, etc. The CyS pen was up there with the best of them. Wish I still had it.

I really like the look of these new watches......I will keep my eye on the secondary market. They used to sell their higher end pens & watches in gorgeous humidors. They were works of art themselves. Still have one.

CyS is one of those brands like S.T. Dupont. Almost nobody has heard of them but they beat the snot out of the "usuals" when it comes to quality. The asking price is not too steep. Pretty sure they have a mundane movement....but I'm sure the watch is finished very well.

Have always wanted to check out CyS in person. The allure of their origin story is part of it (me being Cuban), although I’ve heard it’s either fabricated or the name was bought out, etc.

These look different enough and in todays watch world, different without being gaudy is rare.

Yeah, I got a couple of new pairs of glasses recently and I noticed the sunglasses I bought were branded Ernest Hemingway!

I remember almost buying a C&S watch like 15 years ago. They’ve always been intriguing to me

They do look beautiful Bill I have to admit. :) And having Hemingway
on the dials adds a really terrific element to an already great looking
watch honestly.  Like Palace said, they are nice and different,
but not overdone at all. ;) They are really cool I think.

Thank you so much for the news about them !!!

none of the watches do anything for me, just not my style. the humidors are kinda cool, but probably only if you're a 1 or 2 watch kinda guy. if you have 10-20 watches, one box that big for just one watch is way overkill.

that said, this humidor is much smaller and the burl on that (i think it's maple?) is gorgious.

I’ve had my eye on Hemingway watches too, and I agree, they do look really cool. The price can definitely be a bit steep for what you’re getting. It’s a bummer when something that catches your eye ends up being out of reach financially. If you’re into the style but want to save a bit, maybe keep an eye out for similar designs from other brands.
Wow, thread revival almost exactly one year after the last post. Not suspicious at all.

I guess we can at least be thankful that this post didn't come with a link to a replica watch website like this user's other two posts.

Wake me up when we can get a clone of Mariel or Margaux.
