Crap.....I'm an idiot!

Post by SCM64 » Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:17 am

:banghead:

So i am changing the Nato on my Trimix today, and while pulling it through the screw bars it must have turned the bar and unscrewed it, and I am now missing/lost a screw head. I always do this kind of stuff over the bed in case something happens but I have looked and looked, and just can't find it. The leopard print comforter my wife has on the bed has not helped at all either :angryfire: . I already texted my wife to let her know I need her to give it a look when she gets home from the mall.

Damn it! :smack:

So I just dropped Joe a PM to see how I need to go about getting a replacement screw head and also two complete spare screw bars.

This led me to a question...springbars, yes..easy to find...but what's a source for screwbars and are they kind of "standard". Let's assume Joe does not have a replacement..am I out of luck? I doubt that will be the case, but what about 10 years from now?

This stupid move on my part has made me realize that springbars are really the way to go if you can, since those are not going anywhere and will always be easy to find.

Anyone else ever had this happen? What watch and did the manufacturer have replacements?

That's what you get for being all thumbs  I'm only kidding of course - and yes, that's happened to me several times. Try finding one on the carpet/rug or worse - in the cracks of the couch. :banghead: I've actually found collars (from adjusting the sumo bracelet) 2 days after I lost it - at night, if you can believe that. I had a flashlight out and that little sucker light up like a beacon. You might try that - those screws are polished so they should reflect light fairly well. Short of that or using a magnet, all I can say is keep looking.

I've been wondering about your other question myself. There's not really a place to get screwbars and with all the different sizes, how likely are you to find the exact one, provided you even find a supplier? Spring bars can be had everywhere, but I doubt ofrei.com carries screwbars, but honestly I haven't looked. I've gotten several pairs of spring bars from thewatchprince.com - might drop them an email and see if they have screwbars as all they do is aftermarket straps/bracelets. Of course, Joe might be able to accomodate but that might not be the case in 10+ years (though I certainly hope Zinex is still around).
You give respect, you'll get respect - you just don't know your place.

Steven, I have found that if I am working with something small .... it's a given that I am gonna drop it and lose it. They don't call them "spring" bars for nothing. I've had them launch all the way across a room before.

Thanks Brad. I have the PVD LE, so the little sucker is black as night.

I looked for like an hour, I mean how far could it go! I had like 3 LED flashlights on the corners pointing in, and one in my hand going all over the bed. Checked around the floor of the bed too. Zippo.

Finally had to walk away and take a break ( and PM Joe  ).

oh yeah, forgot about the pvd part, Steven. Here's my suggestion: go knock back a few, watch some NCAA, wait to hear from Joe, and let your wife help you when she gets back. She'll find it - then chide you for losing it.

David, that's me too. All watch handling will now occur over a very large white beach towel.

Brad, yea, that's what I'm doing! If any one can find it Ana can.

If I could find the screws that dropped under the couch on our wood floors, you would be welcome to them....there are screw eating couch weasles under there....lost into the abyss..

Well good news. Much has been said about the service Joe offers. In addition to the PM I dropped him @ WUS, I shot them an email. Just got a reply from Brenda that they would just send me a spare set if I send them my address.

I offered again to Pay, but they would hear none of it. How nice is that, and to also get a reply on a Saturday!?

So thanks to Zinex for kick butt service.

I'm glad it's all going to work out. You're definitely not the first (and won't be the last) to lose spring bars, lug screws, etc. I lost count around 10 with regard to the number of collars I've lost for my Seiko diver bracelets...

If you still have not found the screw head you might try very gently
flipping the sheet up and down and see if anything "bounces".
I did that with a pin collar and it worked.
Good luck.
