New Longines Silver Arrow and Avigation Big Eye Titanium

Post by AtomicTom » Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:38 pm

Just saw these new Longines watches a second ago. Did you see them?

First, you have the new Silver Arrow, which has details like a 38.5mm
stainless steel case, 30m WR, sapphire box crystal, cool domed silver
dial with opaline finish, striated markers and polished sword style
hands with SLN touches, leather straps, and Calibre L888.5 movement
also.

Next there is the new Avigation Big Eye Titanium with it's 41mm grade 5
titanium case, 30m WR, box-shaped sapphire crystal, textured gradient
effect Petrol blue dial, gradient effect, grained surface, black sub-counters,
and nice numbers, and sand-blasted hands with cream SLN, the Caliber L688
movement, and leather straps too.

You know guys, was just thinking how Longines always manages to somehow
do the right thing, or things. :) This new Big Eye, along with Silver Arrow are
the perfect examples really. With each seeming as if they were so well thought
out, and nothing was decided on with them unless it worked, or made sense.
I mean the Big Eye not only takes you back in time with the style. But then
still gets a nice subtle updating that works.

Then the Silver Arrow pays tribute to the past, as well as tradition in the coolest
of ways. 8-) Just those striated markers amaze !

So happy that you guys enjoyed so much, and thanks so very much for looking !!!

Very nice SA re-re-issue. Had no idea it was even a thing. Article wrongly states the 2009 reissue didn’t have applied indices, as they’re the best part of that watch’s dial. Can’t believe it’s been so hard to sell mine, as the Hesalite crystal and beautiful dial (more emotive than this very nice ‘21 version’s) make it such a special feeling (modern) piece. Might have to just hang onto it, and try to actually wear the thing once in a while. Not sure anything else in the thousand dollar range comes close. Spent almost a decade trying to find a nice one, and then found it was too similar to my GS, in my modest little lineup. Funny how a new release can inspire new lust for an overlooked piece you already own....

Are those the cheapest case backs they could come up with? Seriously both nice looking watches the silver arrow looks like something they would have produced in their glory days and they cheapen them with those case backs etched with a paperclip.

Loving the Ti Bigeye. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the U.S. (yet). Always loved the OG, but this one pushed me into finger hovering over the future “Buy Now” button.

If my blue Polaris didn’t exist I’d go for a that big eye.
