Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
Damn the prices on secondhand market for sub c and explorer 42mm etc have me thinking I may flip a few of mine, grab a nice profit and get into other pieces. I can't believe sub c are selling for 7000 to 7500 now. Seems only a year back they were in the 5's. May be selling time. Just not sure.

I'm biased but I'd sell the SubC and buy the seadweller 16600, just my opinion. I think that model will start to rise, plus no cyclops wearing mine as I type

My 216570 Explorer II White dial is going up this week.

I hear ya ... I could make a profit selling my GMT for what they're going for now.ericf4 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 10:52 amDamn the prices on secondhand market for sub c and explorer 42mm etc have me thinking I may flip a few of mine, grab a nice profit and get into other pieces. The only problem is, it will (probably) cost me more if I want to reaquire it later. Seems like Rolex rarely have a price correction...
Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
I’m wanting another back now. Convincing myself they’re too expensive and that having to sell two to get that Rolex back has been easier than I thought.
Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
I think Rolex strangling some of it's AD's and limiting supply to the ones it wants to keep around have something to do with this. Grey market guys are selling new SS sport models ABOVE their skin price.

No dealers have ready supply.
Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
The pre-owned Rolex market (both modern and vintage) has gone completely nuts. If I had known this was going to happen five years ago...

Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
Yep. I'm seeing more of these discussions everywhere and lots of guys cashing out... some of them are really pushing it, but if people pay then the bar just gets higher. It's a bit false though as we rarely know what pieces sell for, and people justify asking prices by looking at other asking prices... SS Daytonas (non-ceramic) seem to be the latest "hits". Guy on the Canadian Watch Collector forum has his listed for CAD $28,500...
Send lawyers, guns and money...
Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
When I picked up the Explorer my AD said likely no more stainless sport models until summer or later.

Shit - maybe I should sell and cash out. So many watches, so little funds...

I have no problem with TRF trusted dealers selling used watches. I have a problem with them selling BNIB 12K Daytona for 20K with stickers and open warranty cards, all while people have been standing in line for over 2 years with their AD and no Daytona in sight.

I’ve always assumed that the ADs sell directly to the greys, though they might be more careful now.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:38 amI have no problem with TRF trusted dealers selling used watches. My problem is that they distort the used watch market and provide almost no value.

Yep, that's why I said hopefully to identify and combat, ultimately start yanking Rolex AD-ship from those who sell straight to "trusted" dealersJP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:41 amI’ve always assumed that the ADs sell directly to the greys, though they might be more careful now.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:38 amI have no problem with TRF trusted dealers selling used watches. I wonder if Rolex is really having production issues or if this a strategy of some sort.

Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
I bought my 216570 from a "trusted seller" last year. the watch had all the stickers on it and my name on the card. I'd say your assumption is correct.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:41 amI’ve always assumed that the ADs sell directly to the greys, though they might be more careful now.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:38 amI have no problem with TRF trusted dealers selling used watches. Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing
This is the sort of thing that continues to keep me away from Rolex. I don't want to have to play games to spend my money on something. I want to walk into an AD, hand him my credit card and walk out with my shiny new watch. A week or two delay if the watch isn't in stock is ok and I obviously expect a longer wait if the watch hasn't started shipping yet. But I'm not prepared to wait years for a regular production piece that's already been released to the market. I prefer to deal with manufacturers who actually have some motivation to sell me something.
