Skateboard idea................
Re: Skateboard idea................
Your daughter did a good job on the skate board. She would laugh at the home made ones me and my brother made back in the 1960's when skate boards first got big due to surfing was a big thing back then. We would just get a pieces of board get a roller skate take it apart to get two set of wheels and nail it to the bottom of the board we were to poor to buy store bought ones.

Is it me or are the trucks on backwards Terry? The kingpins should be on the inside like this

Well, it took me all summer, but we are now all skateboarding.toxicavenger wrote:Go for it brother.Ryeguy wrote:Very cool. You know my daughter Stella (9 years old) is my surf buddy. It is great to have something you can connect with your kids. It is stuff like this they will remember.
I think it is an awesome idea to use the blanks and have her design the graphics. Stella has indicated she wants to learn to skateboard, so maybe this could be a cool summer project.
My son got a nice Sector 9 for his birthday and, as a good parent, I could not let an 8 year old skate alone. So, for the children, I picked up a pin tail long board for myself.
My daughter decided she wanted to learn to skate too, so I had them both at the local elementary school parking lot all weekend. It was a cold November weekend and neither kid wanted to leave.
I didn't take many pics, but here is my son on his Sector 9.
I used the link Terry posted to pick up my longboard, but you can also get them directly from Ryan Ehlers on his site http://www.ehlerslongboards.com/. I think he is having a 10% off sale now, and you can customize your set-up through his site.
My longboard set-up is bone stock varnished bamboo, but I think I might go for something a bit more fun for my daughter's board.

A buddy that I grew up with, opened a skateboard/bmx shop when he was 18 (he is 50 now) and it is still successful today. He has a store in Vancouver and another in Japan. It's a classic story of, do what you love and you can be successful.

Very cool! My 4yo is too small to skate yet, but she was tickled to rope up for "glacier travel" in her playroom over the weekend. I don't want her to grow up too fast, but I'm looking forward to the shared activities.
And my wife's got the same purple hair. She approves.

Great to see dad/daughter bonding time. I read through this chuckling though because if I had suggested skateboarding to my daughter she would have given me "the look".
cheers,

Mike, I just saw this. My brother's and I use to make our own boards out of plywood back in the 80's to practice on. It was a great experience to saw the least.River Rat wrote:Your daughter did a good job on the skate board. Those are reverse kingpin trucks. I have the same on my longboard. Supposed to be more maneuverable at slow speeds and stable at higher speeds. My son's Sector 9 uses standard kingpin trucks and you have to be a better skater than I to tell the difference.stumpy1972 wrote:Oh yea. What the heck dude?!!!Danny_T wrote:toxicavenger wrote:[/url]

Reviving the old thread - daughter's Christmas long board delivered:

Went with Paris trucks to make this board a nice cruiser for her.
....and just for something different, still great surfing here in Southern NH!

Not sure how it is in other parts of the US, but here in SoCal I see adults traveling by skateboard just as often as by bicycle
