You'd think, but I've got an email chain that says they believe they can, or at least impose some kind of American Tax under false pretenses. I've notified Unimatic about it, though I doubt much of anything will happen.tattoo chef wrote:I don't think that is allowed. Vat is a European tax and should not be charged to buyers outside the EU.Jcp311 wrote:Really looking hard at one of the new Unimatic subs. They looks great, but I wish they had kept their original "model 1" going a little longer. I think they sold the rest of their stock to some shady fashion shop (Luisviaroma) that's charging $767 without the bracelet. I even emailed them about the price and they're not even taking off VAT for US customers. They're justifying it under the pretense of "shipping and customs" while charging a cheaper price for EU customers.

Re: Unimatic Modello Uno, hands on
So I'll say I'm in for the SS version, but I went back and forth on it for a while before I decided to give it a try. The dlc is roughly 650 shipped, which I found hard to stomach with only an nh35.
These watches are pretty pricey relative to the movement, but maybe the fit and finish justifies the asking price.

Re: Unimatic Modello Uno, hands on
I've had a couple online conversations with Unimatic, but found them less than responsive to questions. YMMV. Still a good looking watch.
Re: Unimatic Modello Uno, hands on

Just got my U1-B. Really impressed with the fit and finish. The casework looks very good....like someone who knew what they were doing took some time with it.
The bezel has a solid action with no play whatsoever. The dial also looks very clean.
One weird quirk I've noticed so far, the date wheel doesn't seem to be disengaged despite being a no-date. I can hear the date click over at about the 8 marker. Obviously not a big deal, but I can't help but think this is a no-brainer.
Is it worth the price? Depends on what else you're comparing it to....but if you're curious about the brand I'd say so. The fit and finish alone seems better than other micros in the same category.

Looks cool but HUGE on your wrist...photo angle?

Ha, no it's just the picture. It looks pretty reasonable in terms of size. The official diameter is 41.5mm.JDC222 wrote:Looks cool but HUGE on your wrist...photo angle?

That looks great Jeremy, and I loved the one Matt loaned to me a while back. They seem like they thought everything through when producing their watches. CongratsJcp311 wrote:

I had a no date Kobold like that. It drove me fucking bonkers. I do like the design of that watch, just not at the price range.Jcp311 wrote:

Re: Unimatic Modello Uno, hands on
Yeah...in retrospect that's my only qualm. It came in at roughly 550 shipped with the conversion...I'd never on principle pay that much for a watch with a $40 Seiko movement, but I thought the other aspects made up for it. I've had a fair number of micros in my day so I feel like I can say the f&f is very good. On that alone though I know it won't do it for everybody.streetracer101 wrote:I had a no date Kobold like that. It drove me fucking bonkers. I don't know, it is a better finished watch that the Anko, or even the PADI SRP imo.Jcp311 wrote:Yeah...in retrospect that's my only qualm. It's way nicer in every way than the regular turtles (except for lume). Can't speak for PADI turtle though.
Awful to photograph. I find the outside finish as top notch.
