Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

I guess we'll have to wait and see if the retailer method works. We're confident in it, but time will tell.

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

I am actually interested in the retail strategy. Are you looking at small, regional retailers such as Springers (I see you are from Boston so I thought you might recognize them), or larger, national, retailer such as Tourneau? In either case, I've not seen them carry micro brands before and I would...

Re: RE: Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

There are many other similar style watches made by Longines, Sinn, Damasko, Ball, and Aegir (to name a few) and many of these actually do have tech that stands out. Heck, the Eterna military 1939 is a great watch to compare (similar style and movement) and it is several hundred less than yours at M...

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

Can you please explain the pricing as compared to brand's established peers in the price range? Sure thing. At $2,150, we're about $1,500 less than the North Flag's retail, so I'm not sure the North Flag is a great comparison. That's about 70% more. Of course, you could forego the Tudor warranty an...

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

My suggestion if you guys want to be successful, target the Hodinkee crowd. Not the forum crowd. To be fair, someone else posted the picture originally. I figured if the watch was going to be discussed, that you at least had more info on the watch. That's all. Thanks again for the lively discussion.

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

I guess there's conflicting info on IWC's use of Sellita or ETA, so I can't definitively say. Without official word from IWC, I'll withdraw what I said about the Mark XVIII using a Sellita -- I was just basing that on what I last heard. As far as believing what I say, I sure do. Of course, it's a ma...

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

I appreciate the effort, but I tend to echo Jacob's sentiments. At $2K I'd be considering something from Tudor such as the North Flag which uses an in-house movement. If I wanted to save a bit, I would look at the Ranger on bracelet and sacrifice the in-house movement for the ETA 2824-2. I'd also l...

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

I definitely understand how the watch world works, I just wanted folks to keep that in mind. My post was meant to disseminate facts about the upcoming watch, and like I said, not to get into arguments over what people like and don't like. That's all.

Re: Monta's Field Watch - Triumph

Hey Guys, I haven't posted in a while. Many of you are probably familiar with my website, Wound For Life. I recently had to step back from it as I took a position with MONTA as a rep, handling sales and marketing/PR. I appreciate the discussion here -- the field watch is my favorite so far and the o...

Re: New Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver Black PVD

I had one of these for review and I loved the look (SS not the PVD). The dial has awesome depth to it and really comes off as a well made watch. The only issue I had was the leather NATO it came on, which added a lot of extra bulk to the watch and made it unwearable with a dress shirt. I think on th...

Thanks for the nice words, Andrew. What's your youtube channel? Hey Shane didn't say greetings when you joined last year but thanks for your work, I've been basically ignored on my YouTube channel by manufactures too so I know where you're coming from there. Lots of great content at Wound for Life.....

... but I say write about stuff you actually handle and use. This is a great suggestion Hoppy! If you (Shane) actually get the watches and compare them in person, wearing them, etc. then the article can be not only more informative but also give the raw data from personal experience. It ...

Re: Field watch throwdown

My guess; the author owned or had easy access to those three pieces, thus the article was about them. Lots of "filler material" in the WIS world these days. I was thinking the author might have had an incentive to include all or some of these watches in an article. There are plenty of watches with ...

Re: Field watch throwdown

So, sort of a cheap all day, every day watch. Maybe easier to define by exclusion? Not a diver, not a GMT, not a pilot, not a dress watch. Not any kind of specialist device, just a watch. Definition by exclusion definitely comes into play. A tough, durable, legible watch that doesn't fit in as a pi...

Indeed. A friend of mine is in Spain right now and he said he found a Rolex S-D 4000 for $7,998 with the VAT removed.

Re: GMT Pilot's Watch face off

I think a strong case can be made for "pilots watches" not having a GMT function since they're supposed to be ultra readable at a glance, even if the original GMT Master was made with input from Pan Am  On the other hand, there are plenty of sporty GMTs that don't make any pretense of aviati...

Re: GMT Pilot's Watch face off

Personally, I would take the Bremont then Sinn... The Zenith is a bit over the top. It's not a true Type 20 and it says "pilot" on the dial.. I'm not even sure "GMT Pilot" is a worthwhile category. It's like "GMT Diver" - who cares? Is "GMT Pilot with Blue Dial" their next face off? It's a specific...

We discussed including the GMT Master, but the reason we left it out was because it was so obvious. Our goal was to discuss less popular choices.
