That's interesting and another nail in the coffin. I have to wonder about the upside to Rolex/Tudor staying in. If anyone DOESN'T need a once a year trade fair to promote their products, it's Rolex.

That is really something Terry, and you have to wonder how many more
companies, or brands are also thinking about it. What's interesting
though, is evidently they haven't made a decision on 2021. So they just
might be back sir.

Thanks so much for the news about it ! :salute:

Doesn't surprise me at all. There will be more leaving. The show was tiny this year compared to last year which was half the size of the year before. But the entrance charge has never changed, 60 Swiss Francs / day.
I don't think I'll be going next year.

The cost for exhibitors is massive, Swatch were paying 50 million Swiss Francs, per year and the show is only open for 5 days. That was for all their brands. I think Rolex pay around 20 million for Rolex and Tudor.

I know these big brands can afford it but if I was at that level I would hold a big event at my factory and pay for all the flights of the press and distributors etc, put them all up in fancy hotels, give them all a free watch goodie bags.
1, it would cost a lot less.
2, reporters will write better reviews.
3, your not beside all your competition.
4, everyone would enjoy their experience much more.

Basel doesn't make any sense any more.

Regards Graeme

it all boils down to Rolex, if they walk, they might as well shut down Basel.

Internet killed trade shows. In ‘90 my industries show was both halls at McCormick place in Chicago. Now it’s 30 ish isles. Cost is crazy....just not worth it.
