Been wanting one of these for a while even looked for one at the last NAWCC show I went to a while back no luck. Even bided on one on eBay that went over a 1000 a little more than I wanted to pay and lost. Well I just won this one on EBay a lot cheaper than the last one I bided on and not in bad shape the bracelet is going to be gone as soon as I get it. I think a NATO would look good on it. Another watch I will probably need a service but that's vintage watch collecting. From the net looks like one made during the 1960's dam should of got one years ago they were cheaper and a lot of them on ebay had the original wood boxes and bracelets you snooze you loose. This one still has the original cyclops crystal.

Re: Incoming
I guess from the link mine was made around 1967-1978 due to the dial.

Re: Incoming
Nice Mike, I like the Airman a lot. I've thought about picking up a modern incarnation many times and will one day.

Very nice. Makes you wonder who'd put that awful Fossil/Guess style bracelet on such a cool watch.

Congrats Mike--will look cool on a Nato
Re: Incoming
I am hoping the hacking wire still there on most they are broken. When you pull the crown up there is a hole by the 24 on the dial a wire comes through the hole and stops the second hand a weird set up. There is a guy back east that remakes the part I will have to think how much money I want to put into this watch.
Re: Incoming
What's cool about this watch is how you can use it in different time zones when you travel. See the hour hand how it has the point with out lume on the back part of the hour hand you move the bezel ring to the correct hour in the different time zone you are in so when you go back home nothing to do it all ready set. Kind of cool. Or you can all ways have it set on two time zones if you have family in another time zone so you know when to call and not wake them up I did that a lot when I lived in Guam when in the Navy not a good thing calling some one at midnight.

Cool link you can see how the hacking wire works dam you just pull the crown and the second hand automatically stops at the 24 the new ones can't do that.Monkeyfudger wrote:Cool watch. TheWatchBloke recently serviced one of those and done a bit of a write up.

Here is a link about the hack wire. I all ready sent this watchmaker a email about servicing mine. The wire goes through a tube on the steam defiantly different.

Re: Incoming
Well I got it to day
The dial and hands are in great shape the 20mm lugs plus them being long make this watch look larger than some watches made under 40mm. This is one cyclopes crystal that would be hard to remove the magnifier on the under side of the crystal WU would have a hard time removing it. So far it's keeping time but some removed the hacking wire. I know of some that can repair it and mite have him service it at the same time.

I like that a lot. Congrats Mike. I didn't know the Airman dated back to the '60s.

Re: Incoming
Well got a email from a watchmaker that specializes in the repair and service of vintage Glycine Airman. Will be sending it out tomorrow won't see it for a few months. But when I get it back it will have a full service and the hacking wire will be back in this watch and it's rare to have one of these were the hacking works.
Here is one on Ebay just because the hacking works it's over 1600.00

I will have less money in mine by about 600 bucks and that's after the service and repair of hacking wire. Some people are to lazy to get a project and have money to burn.

Re: Incoming
If you want the same size as the vintage do what I did buy a vintage one were the hacking don't work but every thing else is mechanically fine send it to the same guy I am sending mine to for a service and repairing the hacking wire and it will be cheaper than a second hand new one. Plus having the wire coming through a hole in the dial to hack is way cooler than the new model.Seppia wrote:I love the design of this watch, one day I will get a modern 18 (in 38mm) if I find it second hand.
The price they go for new seems a bit too steep for me

I remember looking at these years ago and they were going for 1000
