Bonaire dive trip photos

Post by Nellipj » Sun Nov 01, 2015 8:25 am

We left last Saturday and I got in late last night after a delay in Newark for a few hours. I was going through DWC withdrawal a little bit. WiFi was a spotty at our Hotel, and I was under water most of the time. If you haven't been to Bonaire, I would definitely recommended it as an dive destination. The reef's are in wonderful shape, and the scenery is fantastic! I dove the Sinn EZM13 and the Bremont Terra Nova during the week as a backup to my dive computer. They both were great underwater. Here are some shots for you guys to check out, Enjoy

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Is Bonaire much different to Aruba? I had several dives there back in 2008 and didn't see that range of wildlife, mainly lots of small colourful fish, plenty of morays and the odd baracuda. I know Bonaire promotes itself as primarily a dive destination, but they're not that far apart.

Steve

Thanks guys  I shoot a Nikon D7200 camera, 60mm Macro Nikon lens on these pics with an Ikelite housing and dual D160 strobes. I just upgraded to the 7200 from the D300 because I wanted to start shooting some video, but I didn't take any this trip.

I have not been to Aruba. I have been to Curaçao and now Bonaire. The diving in Curaçao was good, but Bonaire is much better. I shoot Macro a lot underwater, and Bonaire is perfect for those type of shots. There are not a lot of big things to shoot in Bonaire, but there were lots of schools of bigger fish. From a diving perspective, Bonaire is the best of the 3 islands for sure.

Greg, I actually found the Seahorse on this trip. I've been lucky, this is my 4th Seahorse I've seen diving. They are like finding a bar of gold. The Frog fish was actually 1 of 3 right out in front of our Hotel on the house reef. We had some amazing luck with finding cool things to see. It helps diving with some great divers who know what to look for while underwater. We had a group of 22 go this trip.

i saw a juvenile frog fish on my first dive trip (turneffe atoll in belize) right on the mooring line, but haven't seen one since. we always like to have local guides because they tend to know where certain fish hang out and what their habits are to help pick them out when we're diving.

i still haven't had any diving as good as that turneffe atoll trip for critters. i've seen cool things elsewhere, but not as many on one trip.

Belize is great, we were there last year. Turneffe is fantastic and the Blue hole dives are one in a million. I will definitely dive Belize again.

we had just gotten our basic open water certification (did the open water dives on turneffe), so we couldn't do the blue hole. but it's definitely on our list to go back. it's been 6.5 years, but i highly recommend turneffe flats. we really enjoyed it there.
