I'm about to go all in on Seiko

Post by matt.wu » Tue Dec 30, 2014 2:03 pm

I've always loved the brand, but tended to pass based on other watches in the price range. Well, thank you Japan for what you're doing with the yen. Many Seiko watches are now arguably the best buys, new or used, in all of horology. One could really build a stellar collection, even from an intellectual WIS perspective, of purely Seiko watches.

These two arrived today:

And now I feel compelled to pick up a Grand Seiko or two.

Balls deep son. Go hard or go home!

Hell yeah, Matt! :headbang:

Let me help with your GS selection. You know, in case you decide in a few months you don't want it, I might can save you the trouble of listing it. ;)

I'm glad to see acquiring a Datograph hasn't diminished your love of lesser watches. Seiko/Grand Seiko is one of only four brands that could fill my dress, diver, chrono requirements. The others being JLC, Omega and Blancpain.
only accurate watches are interesting

What's the price range on those Marine Masters? Is there a favourite seller to take advantage of the weak yen? I've always been interested in them but haven't really explored them in depth.

Thanks
James

Indeed a great value. When I recover from performing/recording equipment purchase, I will have a Shogun.

Matt, I notice you shoot virtually all your watch photos in the car. So I have a few quick questions:

 Does your wife have ANY idea what you spend a year on watches?

 Because she does not know, do you store your watches in the car?

 Where do you park?

Thanks in advance!

I am thinking of starting with the SBGJ001 (hi-beat GMT). I do also miss my old SBGE001 (spring drive GMT with sapphire bezel).

And maybe a GS diver? Wish it wasn't Spring Drive. Not my personal favorite Seiko "innovation".

I love the Tuna and hope to see someday what all the MM300 fuss is about.

I've had the Tuna before. Ben's and one that I think Serdal bought, sold, and bought back.

I'll see if I can find some old pics.

Didn't you go all Seiko a few years back when I bought the GS from you? :stir:

Excellent. That's the GMT model I've been looking at for a while now. :stir:
