Bremont Solo 18/SQN

Post by AntonioPD » Tue Oct 21, 2014 8:27 pm

Haters tee up; I think this is cool. Note the black 0 by 10H to commemorate the centenary of the squadron, the detail on the rotor, the red date and stitching, etc:

As special editions go it's ok.

Lol Ed! Your enthusiasm is underwhelming!

I think I judge these watches by my own measure; would I buy a watch like this? Probably not. But I admire Bremont for making watches like this to honor military units, and if I were part of the unit I would be thrilled to own one.

Special editions that carry a likely premium, but use 99% of the goods from a normal production piece is too much of a marketing play in my opinion - Bremont is hardly the worst offender of this -> enter AP.

I wonder how many in the Unit will buy one and what they go for price wise...

Well this could be a way to sell watches.
I've seen catalogs where you can order pens, keychains and coffee mugs with personalized company logo on them.

When a sqn approaches Bremont to make a watch for them, I'd guess Bremont asks for a minimum number(??)

The sqn then decides what platform (ATL-C/P or in this case SOLO) collaborate on the design features and who among themselves who is qualified for a watch. I don't why but I've always liked the NKAWTG inscription on the KC-135 sqn watches.

Different groups have different qualifications, some are pilots only, some are ground crew and then there are those that are more strict - I don't know the specific sqn but there is one Helicopter group that stated only pilots that led 3 combat missions could have one.

Good find, Tony - I think this might be the first SOLO to be used as a sqn watch??. Bremont is not lacking for groups coming to them asking them to make a watch for them and they do a good job at it

I like the red date, and the rotor is more tasteful than usual.

I haven't documented this but info I've seen suggests Bremont may discount bespoke LE watches a bit as compared to the regular edition.

I would hope so given that ADs routinely discount up to 20-25%.

I like it but would not pay LE pricing it's not that different from a normal Solo.
