Stuff like this used to make me wacky
I'm noticing some wear showing on the case barrel of the MB II...
Probably going to touch it up with a Sharpie, but not a big deal and it doesn't bother me.
The "old me" would be looking into a replacement barrel and applying a polymer coating.

I've seen other postings describing similar wear on the barrel. You could probably get away with a Sharpie on the black barrel but it would be more challenging with one of the colored bezels. I guess the good news is that if it gets really bad you could always have the barrel replaced by Bremont.

That's a common problem with the mb2. It is easily fixed with a $250 barrel replacement

Kind of surprising to see this - especially on the inside edge of the barrel that wouldn't be subjected to knocks or other abrasions.streetracer101 wrote:That's a common problem with the mb2. It is easily fixed with a $250 barrel replacement
Re: Stuff like this used to make me wacky
You should probably get rid of it now. I'll give you $750

Beware the sharpie. I used one to color in a scratch on my daughters bike seat frame (black anodized aluminum) and it looked terrible. The sharpy was obvious and looked worse than a tiny scratch.

It is a common issue. Simply rubbing on a shirt sleeve will rub it off with minimal wear.logan2z wrote:Kind of surprising to see this - especially on the inside edge of the barrel that wouldn't be subjected to knocks or other abrasions.streetracer101 wrote:That's a common problem with the mb2. I've said many times that's the sole reason I dont own one, every example I have ever seen shows that wear. Got to be tough for the color to adhere to that knurled surface maybe?? It's kept me from being an owner.
Re: Stuff like this used to make me wacky
So they don't harden the barrel?
Re: Stuff like this used to make me wacky
It looks like it is anodized, which I don't think can be hardened.Panerai7 wrote:So they don't harden the barrel?

I'm not a materials scientist, but the base material could be hardened prior to anodization. That would only help if it's deformation or material loss causing the loss of color though. Do they offer a natural barrel?CGSshorty wrote:It looks like it is anodized, which I don't think can be hardened.Panerai7 wrote:So they don't harden the barrel?

That one will be natural at some point.

I would think that it would be harder to get the anodized finish to adhere to a hardened surface.streetracer101 wrote:No.JP Chestnut wrote:I'm not a materials scientist, but the base material could be hardened prior to anodization. Thanks, but back to where I started, it doesn't bother me much.streetracer101 wrote:Sorry. I'll trade you a Dreadnought plus cash if you want to dump itmattcantwin wrote:Now you tell me.streetracer101 wrote:Simply rubbing on a shirt sleeve will rub it off with minimal wear.
Re: Stuff like this used to make me wacky
I think it's almost inevitable to have this happen to the Bremont barrels.
Re: Stuff like this used to make me wacky
ive only seen the MB2 barrels do this, not the SM, the Alt series etc....I totally think its due to the surface of the barrel being that cool texture...

heck if it bothered me I would see about getting the barrel powder coated or bead blasted.
