Ever heard of Hvitsten?

Post by AtomicTom » Wed Oct 15, 2014 10:59 am

Here's a cool up and coming watch company from Norway called Hvitsten guys. Founded by Hakon-Andre Blad, and named after the stunning coastal town of the same name. Their first watch the Aurora takes after the beautiful nature of Norway, and also the Northen Lights or Aurora Borealis.

You'll be able to choose between three clean designs in stainless steel with a white dial, or black dial, and also a gold plated variation with a black dial. The movement is set to be a 24 jewel automatic with 42 hour power reserve as well.

Good looking timepiece but it's huge for a dress watch at 42.5mm. Uses a Miyota 9015. Not bad for an under $500 watch. Thanks for posting that Tom.

I hate the huge dress watch design. It was OK when it was just IWC doing it with their dressy Portuguese, since it was historically correct. Now, unfortunately, everyone is jumping on.

I like the design, but I don't know that it's bringing anything new to the table. I agree on the size - too big for a dress watch. Also, what's with the extremely short seconds hand on the white model?

It's not short - the tip is yellow.

If it was 38mm it'd be a smart cheap pickup. Has sapphire too.

Really dig the white dial version, except for the size and yellow tip.

At 40mm I would be interested.

Guy said "gesundheit!"

Thank you for posting this Tom. I like the idea and overall look but I would like some longer and thicker hands. The hour and minute hands also could use a little tail, like the hands of the Aquaterra.

I can't tell the width of the lugs either but i think they might be 20mm, I think if they were a little larger (22mm?) the watch would look more proportionate and not as "large" I think that the size could be more manageable then.

It would be nice if the next model had lume also.
