Rolex Jubilee w/ SEL ??

Post by rockmastermike » Sun Sep 21, 2014 3:57 pm

Want to try a Rolex Jubilee on my EXP, one with SEL preferrably.
Does OEM exist (all I see are the hollow end linked ones)?
What is the proper name/ref?
who much are they on the used market?
Thanks

The Jubilee with SEL is referred to as the "Super Jubilee". It's the one with the hidden clasp. I've seen them fitted to Ref 16710 GMTs, and the fit is good but not perfect. A perfect fit will require the 501 (T or B) end links and the special Jubilee band with the fatter lug bars (it is marked with a 50).

On edit, both options are expensive. I doubt you'll find a Super Jubilee for much less than $1,000. You might be able to get a nice GMT2 take off for around $750.

Thanks, Jacob - super jubilee is off the list  but thanks for the endlink info for the "regular" Jubilee hat's a good place to start :salute:

Are you looking to fit to a watch with lug holes, or without? That will be the determining factor in figuring out the end links. No lug holes require the 502T. The alternate part number doesn't have slots to remove the spring bars once the bracelet is fit.

Jacob - the non-lug hole route for the 39mm Exp
Thanks for clarifying a really important part of this!

I just realized you're asking about the Explorer 1. I thought you were asking about the older Explorer 2, which shared the mid case of the 16710 GMT2. I'm not sure I've seen a Jubilee on a newer Explorer 1. I'd strongly suggest spending some time searching TRF before you drop any cash on parts.

Also, I think you'd be crazy to fit a crappy old rattle bracelet to a newer design Rolex. While I'm fine with the older bracelet on an older watch (that's all I own), I'd never give up the super solid modern bracelet for the older design. Especially the "stretch if you look at it" Jubilee with matching crappy clasp.

No reason to put a jubilee on the Explorer. The oyster bracelet is terrific (even if it only has the EZ link), and it dresses up or down equally well. I'd leave well enough alone.

^ those

I wouldn't do it but I've seen pics of the Exp on jubilee and it's not so bad.

Yep, that's the look, even though that is the 36mm version, I think it translates well to the 39mm.

Thanks, Coach

The oyster is great and the jubilee is not a replacement, but another option, like leather or NATO.

options are good

Jacob - yeah, I had the old rattle trap on my 16610 last year - that's why I was hoping for a SEL jubilee.
I like the micro adjustments and from what I understand the super jubilee does not have that.

the old one I had I folded up little pieces of paper in the hollow end link and that cured the rattle, I can do that with the regular jubilee (hopefully)

You're right about the lack of micro adjust. It's 1.5 links only. On the other hand, a half of a jubilee link is fairly small.

soooo, end links with a notch to get the bracelet off again because the case does not have lug holes....sounds like a fun quest

I have a jubilee that has been re-worked by Michael Young and a set of 502t both on the way (from different sources) so it will be "like new" jubilee when I put it together.

Matt, If you want to try it on your Explorer, I'll be happy to send it over for a trial run.
