For a bit more, you could get both of these on the pre-loved market for about the retail of one of the newer versions (flame away!) lol

Gotta agree here. These are terrific choices if you take your time and find good examples at the right price.

I've owned neither but if I had to choose...I'd go Sub. Good luck

Right now, the 16570 Explorer II is probably the best bargain in pre-owned Rollies out there. You can get a really nice looking watch with a GMT function for just over $4,000 (or even a little under, depending on year and condition). You can get used no date subs for around the same price, but the condition on the Exp II will probably be better.

+1

Just recently I was offered a 16610 in 80% condition, watch only for $4500. Was about to pull the trigger till the guy backed out.

Was bummed but soon after an ExpII came up for sale for $3800 complete + Japan RSC service records. This is, by far, the better deal.

116610's are a bit too high already at this point at around $8400. I'm happier with my setup now; Yachtmaster + Explorer II for around $10,000 and all bases covered.

the hands on the 6 digit expIIs are comical. oversized and detracts from the overall look, in my opinion.

I agree. They corrupt the purity of the previous design.
