1959 Doxa dive watch

I recently bought this 1959 canteen style diver from an Israeli frogman. Never seen anything like it except for the buships us and some ussr dive watches. The serialnumber sugests this is a Doxa one off. Anybody seen anything like this begore?

Looks like a mishmash of parts to me. Don't know why a dive watch would be made with such elegant hands and dial that seem to be absent of radium.

I could not agree more.. Until I had it in my hands. The caseback is without a doubt original Doxa and made for this case only. The serial number is a special serial number. Everything on this watch is period correct. Show me a black Doxa 1959 dial with radium. Tritium has been made availble for civilian purposes from 1959 but would not have been used till end 1959. Certainly no use of tritium by Doxa in these years as far as I know. As for Radium - everybody was aware of its dangers in 1959. I can think of a milion reasons why a gentlemen diver/sailor would want to order a special watch with a silver dail and movement from the latest model.. I sure can not prove all this without a crosscheck on serial by Doxa and as much as I value your opinion... prove me wrong! Please!

Think what you want, but it's not original. I'd love for this to be a one off prototype and all, and when you have some provenance, I'll gladly admit I'm wrong, but for now, it's just a pile of parts. It has a date, thin gold hands, and absolutely no way of seeing it underwater.

And if they built a special case with a special special serial number, I think they would have put some time into a special dial, which is probably 20% the work it takes to make a prototype case. Especially back in the day.

Sounds like you are convinced it is og, so we can't help you out with that problem. But good luck if you ever try to sell it.

Thanks everybody for your input and comments. Offcourse I agree that this watch would look so much better with a military dial and hands. And some provenance would be nice. I was kind of hoping somebody would recognise the casing of the watch that would lead me into a researchable direction. I will try to get some info from Doxa but that may prove difficult as it has in the past.
I also have a softspot for a.o. Eterna kontiki watches and they will tell you everything about any watch they ever made and go out of their way to supply you with replacement parts fast. To me this watch is every bit as special as my other Vintage Doxas and not for sale. In fact it wears really nice and gets more wrist time than most of my other vintage divers at the moment.

I applaud the OPs enthusiasm, but I agree with the others, it's highly unlikely that is anywhere near original.
