I'm fine (thanks for asking, seriously  ), though frankly, a layoff wouldn't have been all that unwelcome, given that I'm currently eyeing leaving to explore some other opportunities, and severance and unemployment benefits would be welcome.

Still, I know some folks who are getting the shaft, and my heart goes out to them. This is a rough way to start the new year.

Adam

The consolidation of regions always leads to layoffs.

Good to know AC-first thing I thought of when I heard.

Good to hear; sucks for these folks, though.

Whatever you end up deciding, it's still always better to be looking for a new job when you already have a job (ask me how I know  ).

This is fucked up. I have 3 friends that got laid off so far this new year, wtf? I figured most companies would do it before Christmas, kinda fucked up to lay people off right after new year...it's not like you're generating new fiscals the first week of new year.

Companies (especially public companies) don't want to deal with the publicity shitstorm of laying off employees during the holiday season (even though the layoff decision was no doubt made long before this announcement). All bets are off after the new year.

Ah that makes sense. Fortunately, and knock on wood, I haven't had to go through that decision, and I hope to never have to :).

Glad to hear you're ok. I'm still on the hunt, almost a year later. Not a fun situation.

+1 for AC

2nd thing that came to mind was if #thecoworkerfromhell would stop screwing off on notes and be more productive the place might make a few more bucks..

Glad you are ok.

I'm hearing rumors of upcoming lay offs here too :(

Our company changed policies and no more layoffs in Nov and Dec

When I worked retail in the early 90's I got laid off right after the holidays and yes it sucks big time. Glad you are not on the list AC, and good luck in your hunt.

Reorganizations always kill moral. It's hard to see good people go, even when they take dead-weight with them.

Layoffs definitely suck. I survived four rounds of them in a span of three years before I had enough and got a new job.

That's all fine and dandy. But should you be advertising the fact that you're looking for a new job on a public board?

Note to Macy's.... double his pay and make him the Corporate Global Watch Ambassador.

This might force him to stay

Terrible hearing about layoffs anywhere, but glad it's not affecting our own.

More money won't make the job any better. It may prevent the inevitable for 6 months tops.

AC-

Glad to hear you are ok.

Even more glad to hear you have other options cooking.

You are in a very solid position.

Good folks are hard to come by.

Peace.
