Sinn back from the Fatherland....

Post by sukUbus » Wed Mar 06, 2013 12:34 pm

Got my EZM2 Hydro back from Sinn yesterday. Changed the battery, gaskets and did an oil refill.
The battery did last several yrs and it was running fine when I sent it in 11/12...
The oil did develop a bubble in it...
The Timeline:
---mailed the watch to Germany 11/12 using UPS and got it back end of Feb 13....
---all this was done by email...forms etc..
---communication was good by Sinn. Emails received promptly on when the watch was received , finished and shipped etc..
The Cost:
---cost me $172.71 to ship to Germany via UPS. UPS , FedEX recommended by Sinn because the deliver "door-to-door" whilst USPS has to deliver it to the German post office first then on to Sinn...
---repair was 202.55 Euro ( $263.52 USD)..
---$43 bucks for US customs payable BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER at UPS on pickup...
Overall, other than time, $$$, the Sinn repair experience wasn't bad. Would do it again....
Kurt
p.s. US Customs, our govt, requires check or money order when you pick it up ?? Cash no good, credit card no good...had to run home and dust off my checkbook and drive back to UPS ....

Surprised there is a Customs fee for receiving a repaired item back.

I should have asked what the 43 bucks was for but I was in such a hurry to get the F out of there...
I think the 43 was for the "estimated value of the watch" ???
Probably just another revenue scheme by our broke ass govt...

The $43 is a brokerage fee. They make sure you pay something for the value of them sorting it through customs.
I just got mine back a couple months ago, same thing.

What really chapped my a$$ was when the UX had to go back for some warranty work, after it was repaired, I had to pay that damn fee AGAIN!
The Government will get it from you for sure.

They will not release it to you without it. I had to run home get a check, and then meet the driver at his next stop.

Crazy Fed Ex shipping charge, but the service costs from Sinn GMBH are very reasonable.

While I agree with the BS customs fee (Tea Party anyone?) I do like the sound of Sinn's factory service. Between this one and Andrew's 857 UTC it appears Sinn understands that the service component is part of what "made" Rolex what it's become.

If you would remember how long it took me to find it in Germany, get it, then send it to Germany again, wait for service, you wouldn't even joke about that my buddy.

No, it doesn't look small on you Chris....in fact, you should stick with 40 mm stuff. Any larger pieces you have, say around 45 mm you should just send to me to dispose of ;)

What a process sukUbus. Sounds like it worked out though, and having
it serviced by Sinn rather than someone else was a good idea. I'm glad
you have it back. Keep enjoying ! :)

Beautiful Sinn there also Chris !

Like to hear they have solid communication, that makes any anxiety involved in the wait time easier to deal with. Congrats, and thanks for the info.

My Sinn service was near identical. Plus you get a nifty little Sinn travel case. I hear that you shouldn't try service over the summer vacation month - July or August?
