JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
I don't know if this one has been discussed here yet but I just saw this over at Lex's OceanicTime....

Absolutely a classic beautiful dive chrono with vintage styling IMO. Man that one is a beauty. I like everything about it. Finally a JL i would consider for the collection.... although I know the price will be somewhere in the stratosphere. The only thing is the ceramic/metal composite case, not sure if I like that or not. I personally might have just liked a high quality DLC case. But wow that sure is purdy.

Meh.
For some reason this blend of the old and the new just doesn't do it for me.
Gimmie the steel version. That's perfection.

Adam

Cool watch...No pricing on JLC's website...
I'd probably go for the Deep Sea Chrono Stainless as well...

I said it was my favorite release of SIHH 2013, but I don't think I actually love it. I almost always prefer SS over alternative, high-tech materials such as ceramic, CF, and the like. Really didn't love anything at SIHH this year, and I thought I was going to really dig the new Inge line from IWC.
Re: JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
Umm ! Didn't quite sing to me .. Prefer the SS version as well !
Re: JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
The stainless version already feels very light on the wrist. The ceramic version must be light as a feather.

Agreed. Thus far, SIHH 2013 is a snore. Yes, I'm supposed to be out there boosting IWC, yet with the exception of the the ref. 3239 (the 40mm) and the ref 3785 (Racer Chronograph), you can color me unimpressed. Okay, fine, I'd gladly murder any of your for the Constant-Force Tourbillon, but that's different.dukerules wrote:I said it was my favorite release of SIHH 2013, but I don't think I actually love it. As for exotic materials, I'm all for them as far as research and pushing envelopes goes, but ultimately stainless steel works just fine for me. Sure, I'm looking forward to adding the Forged Carbon Diver to my collection, which will necessitate the departure of my stainless steel Diver, but that's pretty much the only watch that uses that material that I dig (it also helps that it was discontinued after year of production -- in favor of an all-ceramic model -- which is going to make it a rare bird indeed).

Love the looks, but not sure about ceramic as a case material.
I know it's massively scratch resistant, but we've seen the pictures of cracked cases on watch that have been dropped.

The snoozefest continues.
I was starting to think it was just me, but it seems to be a widespread feeling.
And the boutique only...just another annoying tactic.
but, I will still take me some of that AP Ceramic diver.

Re: JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
I'm sure it's extraordinarily well made, both inside and out. That said, I don't see it as anything particularly special from an aesthetic point of view. Not that it looks bad, just that it doesn't look remarkably different from the other sport divers already out there (of course, I drool over Submariners and Sea Dwellers, and there's obviously nothing new there).
Also, I've never understood the point of a dive watch with a chronograph feature, but that issue is hardly unique to this model.

Re: JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
The chronograph can be used for timing deco stops. In fact, the psychotic Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms X has a dedicated 5-minute timer to accomplish precisely this task.JBZ wrote:Also, I've never understood the point of a dive watch with a chronograph feature, but that issue is hardly unique to this model.

PS - The discontinued Aquatimer Split-Minute had a more elegant solution; a hand hidden beneath the minute hand that could be stopped to mark the beginning of a deco stop and then snapped forward when done.

Definitely a yawner this year but I'm with Adam on the IWC 3239. Of course there are the grand complications from Lange, JLC, etc but not attainable by this mere mortal. Although I love carbon and appreciate ceramic... meh... none of the exotic materials from AP, IWC, Panerai, etc really tickle my fancy.
I'll stick to my jellyfish this year.

Close but no cigar.
Re: JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET
I'm definitely liking it although at the price point that it will be I think I would choose several high end pieces over it..
Great read though...
