Best watch deal you ever made?

Post by deepcdvr » Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:09 pm

I'm talking about financially.

I just traded away a really nice piece and it got me thinking..

I've made nearly a hundred trades/purchases over the years. Usually pretty even on the value front, but honestly I've lost quite a bit as well since I'm not in it for the money and I have NO patience.

Best trade I ever made as a percentage of the trade value was when a guy offered me a Muhle Sar in LNIB condition for a relatively well used O7 LM3. Probably 150% profit... (not to mention 1000% upgrade in quality...lol)

What about the rest of you? I assume the ballers around here don't 'make' much on their sales/trades, but us WIS wanna-be's probably do pretty well. Am I right?

One of he best watch deals I made was also one I now regret the most too. I remember purchasing a Dee & Ricky G-Shock. There was a hot little craze on the forums so I went to Macy's and $130 boom...I had one. Then after they blew out the price kept going up. Of course I'd never wear that butt ugly watch (JMHO!!) so when they started going for $400...SOLD!! But NOW those babies on ebay are going for OVER $1000 Bucks!! So now cashing in on that $400 makes me sick to think I could possibly get over a grand for it now! :banghead:

Many times on the loosing end when selling and I do expect a bit of a loss as I tend not to haggle when I want something when buying, but had one nice payback a few years back.
Not a watch deal, but bought a small wicker basket ( no shit on wicker ) with a bunch of old watches not working from a small second hand store in Vancouver BC some years back. I let him nickle and dime me on some other crap I brought up as fodder then bought the whole lot for $30 bones. Got home and plucked out that old gold Vacheron in the basket and traded it the next day un-working for a nice Rollie sub someone had for sale.

 Great story! My best deals were picking up hideous pos Orsa Monstrums which people were
looking to unload and getting $75 extra on each of them when I turned the, around. Huge profit percentage wise given the near valueless nature of the product.

Traded a Korsbek for a Kobold Seal once. Then I traded the Seal to Paul for something or other. I was happy both times. Were they deals? I dunno.

That's the thing about selling here though, I try not to do it because I don't feel right profiteering from other DWC people.

I pretty much only list a piece here if a fellow DWC member got me a great deal, then I'll list it at buying price.

Not the most popular watch here, but I picked this up for $650 minutes after it was posed to the WUS sales forum.
