the exit watch
Re: the exit watch
This topic reminds me that I saw my first Patek Aquanaut IRL this summer. It’s a terrific looking watch. Thin, great case shape and size, really unassuming. I could see having that and the 16570 if I ever have the means.
I showed a picture of it to my wife and she dug it and asked me why I didn’t have one. Then I shared the price with her.

Re: the exit watch
I’ve slowed way down over the past few years. I think part of it is getting tired of the buy/sell/buy treadmill and figuring out what I really like. Plus having 2 kids go off to college ie tuition.
Until I recently added the EZM2 from Ben I had the same 3 watch collection (114270 Exp1, 5513 Sub, Seiko 7548) for 2+ years. The Exp1 is such a versatile piece I don’t see it going anywhere.

Re: the exit watch
Guess I'm too honest for my own good. She was really floored when I told her that they command a lot more on the grey/second hand market due to the current shortage. Her response, "but it's used."
Re: the exit watch
Any ONE of those watches would be unbelievable I think Zach !
On this end though, am not tired however. Am thinking it may
just be because I really don't buy many watches. ..Honestly just
usually am seeing, or looking, and learning about new watches, but
not on the treadmill as you say.
Seriously hope that if you do end up getting an exit watch, that you
still can, or will enjoy the hobby, and everything.

The green Submersible looks great.
I have the 16800 as my keeper since 2015, and keep rotating the second slot every 6-12 months, occasionally leading to a 3 watch temporary collection.
I probably should have stuck with my original two-fer: 16800 and Sinn 103.

I currently have a temporary collection of 18.
Probably 5 "keepers" in the group.
Re: the exit watch
I don't think there is an exit watch- maybe a small exit group of 2 or 3....who knows, always wanted a Rolex day date white gold, fluted bezel..
Currently, have 4 watches now ( Rolex SubC/Hulk, Omega Diver300 Master Co-Axial, Sinn 757, and Bremont Al1/z51). Pretty happy....We'll see, I'd like to add a Panerai but hard to find the right one ( want a 42MM).
Cool to see what others are looking to do..

Re: the exit watch
I’ve made too many flipping mistakes in the past. Now I just want to be happy with what I have. My 3570.50, Dornbluth 99.1, and original 6139-6005 aren’t going anywhere.
I’ve had great satisfaction with the new Willard and just bought the green one today. Hopefully it scratches the itch of the Kermit just as the black dial has scratched the itch of the 16610.
If I come into some inheritance I’ll get a solid gold GMT or Sub. That’ll be it for me. Meanwhile, low to mid range Seiko where I am and can afford.

Re: the exit watch
I've slowed WAY down. Haven't bought anything in two years. Last one was the Blancpain Bathyscaphe in Ceramised Titanium....that was a "grail" watch for me. I hardly wear it though - realized I have to have a bracelet option, so I'll probably sell it. Tough to let go though since there's less than 40 in the world. The rest of the lineup looks like this -
Rolex 114060 Submariner No Date
JLC Navy Seals Diver Limited Edition
Rolex 116660 DeepSea Sea-Dweller
Rolex Q4 1976 GMT 1675
Omega Watchco SM300 165.0024 cal. 522
Rolex 1986 16660 Sea-Dweller
Rolex 16610LV
Omega Planet Ocean 2201.50 2500D
Omega Seamaster Professional Quartz 2264.50
Rolex Air-King 114200 34mm
Omega Seamaster 2531.80
Omega Speedmaster X-33 3290.50
Maybe that's my exit "collection"? Only thing I'm really interested in getting is a "Batman" or Pepsi ceramic GMT.

Every time I work my way down the watch ladder I find my self going up...much like the mystery strap collection. I sell off a bunch of straps and mysteriously they morph back to more.
I have the Explorer II Polar and was tempted towards a SD but decided to keep it. The Omega SM300 is just so comfortable to wear as well. I have a watch my son bought me (Bulova Moon) a CWC Chrono; From Pete’s Because I Like it watch shop...amazing vintage pieces. My wife and walked for miles to find in Bangkok visiting my son. My TSAR, incredible 6309 and soon a SBBN007 (the latter harder to find these days). Yikes.
Maybe it would just be the Explorer II Bulova and CWC for me.

Re: the exit watch
Exit watch? “Either this man is dead or my watch has stopped.” For me it’ll be what ever I’m wearing when I join that Norwegian Blue, ring down the curtain, and join the bleedin’ choir invisible. In other words, probably a solar Seiko or G-Shock. Part of me wants one nice watch, and the practical side says I need a day-date solar so I know when it’s green Jello day at the home without selling my test strips to buy a replacement battery.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.
Re: the exit watch
Other than buying back the NAFT I shouldn’t have sold I don’t think I’ve gotten a new watch in close to a year now. So that leaves me a SARB, a Seiko diver, and a square G-Shock. I’ve got all the basics covered though I know the itch will eventually return.

Thanks Matt - it’s not as much restraint as lack of money - I do think eventually I’ll want something in the second spot that is as nice as my 16800.mattcantwin wrote:Impressive restraint.blowfish89 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:54 amI have the 16800 as my keeper since 2015, and keep rotating the second slot every 6-12 months,

Re: the exit watch
After years of trying I’ve given up on an exit watch. I think I’ve found my favorite watch in the Sub but couldn’t settle down with just one. Right now the plan is to have 3 core watches and some fun beaters to round out the group.
Thinking of offloading the Seamaster for something else as I’m a bit diver heavy at the moment. Speedy or OP maybe? Or hell, I may end up keeping it. This is a weird hobby.

the exit watch
Not sure if there is a watch in existence that would sate my appetite enough to be able to exit. If there is, I have a feeling it will be an AP, and I’m not ready to go there.
Like many here, I’ve owned almost everything under $15k, including dozens of Panerai, Rolex, etc., yet I continue to buy and sell with no end in sight.
My current favorites are Titanium, including the Shogun and PAM562, and I wear my OG PO XL almost every other day, it seems.
So in a nutshell, I’ll keep going until I either find my one true watch that makes me stop, or until I hit the wall and call it a day.

Re: the exit watch
Yeah, no one exit watch for me, however as others have stated, I’m working on having 3 or 4 core watches and then have a “play around amount” for beaters and other watches I would want to try. Would love to stay at 6 to 10 watches total.
My core collection currently is the PO and the BB58. I like panda chronos a lot so the Hammy Intramatic is staying for now... unless Omega makes another panda or reverse panda Speedy. The Seiko Willard will probably stay for a long time. Everything else could be sold.
I will be selling a couple of watches and saving some money as I want to pick up one of the new Seamaster (probably in blue). In the future, would like to try a PAM and maybe add back the Polar ExpII, but not at current prices.

I could have made a nice exit with these six watches.
