the only thing wrong with that article is that hodinkee had jumped the shark a while ago. at this point it really almost just trolling the watch community and seeing how many ridiculously stupid at least a handful of people are willing to be with their money.

Yeah, they seem to have gone off the rails as of late.

So it was going to be a surprise, but I bought all 96 of them and was going to give them out as Christmas gifts to all the DWCers for battling through COVID and being able to travel again in 2021. After reading this thread, I am just going to keep them all :bootyshake: and circle my bed with them. I am sure my dog will love it when all 96 alams go off at the same time.

If they actually got 96 people to buy this, good for them, I guess. But I think most people's reactions related to the price rather than the concept. If they had put this out for $500 or even $1,000, they probably still would have been mocked, but I don't think the criticism would have been as vicious. But $5,900? To quote a politician - c'mon man!

I think it is funny that they included design renderings in their rebuttal in an effort to make their "effort" seem more legitimate. Any mass produced product is going to need blueprints of the design prior to the manufacturing process. It seems as though they are now just trying to justify their pie in the sky price...as if any of the critics care.
All this article convinced me of is they bought some defunct, dusty movements that nobody wanted, churched them up Hodinkee style and then slapped a silly price (also Hodinkee style) hoping nobody would call them out on their shenanigans...and they got called out by the community that has made them massively wealthy. It's time to either own it or pretend it never happened.

I still don't get how this is some amazing new typeface. It looks pretty ordinary to me.

I have a few really cool desk clocks and travel clocks AP, Panerai, Breitling etc.
There have been times Ive taken a travel clock along places but if I do its not something I wouldn't be willing to lose and I lock them in the room safe for what little security that adds but I don't know this one just seems absurd to me!

Yeah, at least they are giving us good comedic value at others expense.

Like Matt mentioned there are other clocks if I had the coin ATM I'd sink my $ into.

I just don't get exactly what is the purpose of a travel clock with today's smartphones and GMT watches.

I'm kind of equating it as the same as bringing along a grandfather's clock.

to be fair, plenty of people would say they don't see the purpose of a wristwatch with today's smartphones. let alone the idea of paying $15-30k for one.

Thank you, found it on the bay although there are a few specific sites for cockpit clocks out there.

Way back pre-Covid I hunted for a cockpit clock for my cube at work and was excited to find a Sinn one and doubly excited that it had its “decommission papers” also. With the documents I could find the specific aircraft it was pulled from. This one had seen combat and is now on display at a museum in the UK

I did a mini write up here earlier: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=69941
