Watch workmat suggestion

Post by HapaHapa » Wed Jun 24, 2020 8:03 pm

I have wanted a small mat to do strap changes on for a while. I've been using the back of my iPad case on the kitchen table, which is tiled, because desk space has become too cluttered (with other people's stuff). Was looking for something I could roll-up and stash. Maybe a small leather or rubber mat. Lots of leather ones available but kind of pricey compared to flipping over the iPad. Also many cheap pleather options but mostly too large, and rubber/silicone tool mats usually have magnetic areas. Not good. I ran across this silicone mat the other day and ordered one. $6. The smallest S-130 size 14"x10" doesn't have magnets so good to go.

Anyone else have a watch workmat they would like to share? I know some of you guys probably have watch work-stations.

I have one of these. It is actually marketed for radio controlled cars, but works perfectly for watches. The little sections are the perfect size to hold spring bars and small tools.

Looks like it’s out of stock.

I have an old mat that I used at Movado. Could use a new one.

I mostly use a foam mousepad flipped over to use the textured rubber side.

Plastic table in my office. Or my wife's dining room table.

I got one from Ofrei years ago that’s been sitting on my desk constantly.

This one from Amazon is fairly cheap and not magnetic.

Hey, these are neat guys, and didn't even know the mats were used,
or were a thing. It's such a fantastic idea though. Often just use
the table on the table cloth. Or also lap like Matt does !

Have to thank you Eric, and everyone for all of this honestly !

My wife hates when I refer to things as "hers" rather than "ours". :tap:

Like Henry, I generally use a mouse pad for strap changes. If I have to open the case, I clear off my wife's desk and cover the work area with a sheet of clean paper.

I bought a few from Prometheus Design Werx. No magnets. Their new color is the black/grey. They used to offer a yellow grey which was great for contrast against small parts. Downside of yellow is it showed grime very easily.

Anyway this is what they have as of today: https://prometheusdesignwerx.com/collec ... 1006034006

Mouse pads are great until the spring bars roll onto the floor, never to be found.

That’s very nice, but I think I paid $8 for mine. Not that $29 is a lot of money, it just seems expensive for what it is.

I’d love to use one of those $60+ leather gun mats, but the cheaper rubber versions have nice ridges to hold parts and tools.

just received one of these using some points I had... nice little set-up, fits perfectly on the corner of my desk... will likely see plenty of use and hopefully less time spent on my hands and knees searching for errant springbars

Picked up a Prometheus a year or so ago and love it. Don’t have to worry about anything rolling off the desk and like the areas up top for spring bars and stuff.
