I like that but it’d be a pain to wear on the ankle.

I like it a lot, I’ll buy one. I don’t love how they do the backlight on a lot of the analog gshocks though with that little led shining at an angle onto the dial.

Concur - hope it’s something better than that?

I don’t know. I think if you go to Japan post covid you’d see plenty of state of the art tech.

So it has a Bluetooth smartphone link. Very useful when underwater.
Genius.
Casio making a gigantic, super expensive watch that is 10 years behind in terms of technology.

It’s sad to see how japan is becoming like Italy, a country mostly living in the past and incapable of innovating.
But but but, that's why the rest of the world loves Italy! Old World Rules!!

Very interesting. Years ago people who traveled to Japan were amazed how far ahead of us they were in terms of tech.

I do know :)
I visit(ed) japan for work minimum five times per year and know the Honshu island pretty well.
Japan is surprisingly behind in terms of tech in many areas.
Some examples include spotty WiFi in the hotels, most people still using flip phones, most restaurants not taking credit cards, normal atms not working with non-Japanese cards (have to go into a 7/11) etc.
My distributor is the second largest coffee company in the country, with more than a thousand employees and offices all over the country: their email system doesn't allow attachments above 2mb, and they don't have email on their work phones.

I completely, unconditionally love japan.
I consider it the only country that can go toe to toe with Italy in terms of food and it is in my top three places I suggest to my Italian friends for a "once in a lifetime" vacation (probably number 2 after a tour of western USA).

Still, a supposedly hi tech dive watch that size and that price must double as a dive computer in 2020.
Very interesting observations (I've never been to Japan, so it's great to hear from someone that's spent time there).

Re: the 'dive watch' comment, most people I know that dive seriously wear their dive computer while diving only. Some wear it also out of the water, but that's only some of the smaller ones, most are simply to bulk to wear as a watch. And they're bulky because they have nice, large easy to read underwater displays.

I don't think I could use a smaller wrist watch while diving and get enough info easily off the display. :)

I have wished for an analog Frogman as a back-up dive timer for a long time, as Casio digital readouts are too small. They finally do it and then put dual-time, what looks like a 24hr indicator, and 'tide' sub-dials on it? Surely elapsed dive time and max depth are just a little more relevant in a dive watch? FFS.

For example, this costs about the same, it’s smaller and is a full dive computer.

Yeah, but then you'd have Suunto dive computer. Friends don't Suunto friends.

I don't dislike suunto, it works great for me.
Sure the algorithm may be conservative but I don't care that much.
I find it knots a plus.
I'm kind of an odd duck, as I've only been doing recreational diving (around 200 dives) and have no particular desire to do anything more complex (ie beyond 50m, caves, etc) even if I am fairly comfortable in the water due to my decade playing high level waterpolo.
I have dived with people wearing Suuntos and in the second half of the dive they are usually hanging above the rest of the divers, halfway to the surface, with their computer beeping at them.

The bigger issue is they won't disclose their decompression algorithm...so you don't know why their computer is doing things different to everyone else's in the water. Most other makers have moved to the open-source Buhlmann ZHL-16 gas models. We know their is vast evidence over a long period to support these, they are open to expert review, and are constantly being updated by the community as our understanding of dive physiology improves and more data becomes available.

I was hoping a Frogman with analog and the dream came true. Digital is not user friendly to my weary eyes anymore. I need analog with big dial face and blue tooth or not it doesn't matter. This will be nice as dive computer back up if the main one fails.
