Bluetooth Speakers

Post by BlueSky » Fri May 15, 2020 8:11 am

Fooled around with some cheap ones years ago and was nonplussed. For a number of applications/reasons, I picked up a JBL Flip 5, all the time thinking I'd probably return it.

https://www.jbl.com/bluetooth-speakers/JBL+FLIP+5-.html

I'm rather impressed and I have a pretty decent home system. Considering what it is, the size and so on, the SQ is remarkably good. Using it with Amazon Music/Alexa. Great purchase and looking forward to using it this summer.

I've got a JBL Charge 2 and really like using it. Good bass as it has 2 radiators and really great mobile platform.

Also have a Anker Soundcore 2 for the smaller size and the Charge is noticeably better, which is not surprising given the larger size :)

Bjorn... I looked at the Charge, but kept going back to the Flip because of the size. I was skeptical and should not have been. I can see us using this often and packing it for trips. Threw a bunch of stuff at it today and I'm even more impressed. All this sound coming from something the size of a tallboy.

I hear ya. That's why I got the little waterproof Anker after.

It's quite something what they can do with those little speakers Image

I’ve been thinking about getting something bigger for the garage gym. The little Oontz I use now isn’t cutting it.

I picked up a Sony SBS xb-40 last year at Costco on a clearance price. No quite bleeding edge in terms of waterproof but has pretty good sound.

I use an Anker Soundcore, I guess it’s version 1. Good sound and charge lasts a day or two (not really sure, don’t use it continuously.

The Oontz I have puts out pretty solid volume for a portable unit. But I have a California garage gym, not a Florida garage gym.

I think that is the same one I have. It gets loud enough, but it just sounds okay. I need some bass when I’m deadlifting.

Bluetooth Speakers

Post by Joeprez » Sun May 17, 2020 5:45 am

Had a Flip 2 or 3, but speaker is busted so need a new one. Bought my mom a Charge and it sounds way way better than my old Flip.

However I’ve been thinking about trying this Tribit speaker. As with most of the JBL models, you can pair two of them together:

Tribit StormBox Bluetooth Speaker - 24W Portable Speaker, 360° Full Surround Sound, Enhanced Bass, Wireless Dual Pairing, IPX7 Waterproof, 20-Hour Playtime, 66ft Bluetooth Range Outdoor Speaker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0784ZQFHZ/re ... WEbP0DHB96

The 20 hour battery is nice.

Review vs. the Flip 4

This one from Cnet states that the Flip 5 sounds better than the Tribit

I’ve had the Wonderboom from Ultimate Ears for about 3 years now. Small with big sound, travel friendly, 10 h battery life, waterproof, and floats. Had it on the beach, camping trips, clipped to a golf cart. Kids have thrown it across the room into the wall. Still works great. Been meaning to grab another, apparently you can easily pair 2 of them together. There’s a new model out that has a slightly longer battery life and gets a little louder.

Bose Microlink by far. I have the Wonderboom also and no comparison. The Bose Bluetooth never fails, incredible sound, and water resistant.

How good is it? My stereo went out on my boat, threw my Bose in, and haven’t paid a fortune to replace the stereo. Best $100 I ever spent.

I have a whole house full of Sonos gear everywhere so their new portable could be an option too I guess. Just not sure I need a $400 wireless speaker.

I run a cable between my phone and a dashboard jack in the Acura. The 2008 model just missed the Bluetooth generation of vehicles.
Do you have any issues switching from wireless headphones to that JBL and back? I have to turn off my laptop Bluetooth to swap from the laptop to my phone. The laptop won’t “ let go”.

That’s odd. My 2004 Acura TL had Bluetooth.

You will not be disappointed! We bought one after hearing one on vacation - the hotel had them in all the rooms. That little thing rocks and has some great bass.

Are you saying that your TL would play audio from your phone? Our 2008 RDX’s have Bluetooth for cellphone calls but our phones weren’t on the supported list. There’s no stereo integration in that connection, but I guess if the phone is connected then sound is sound.
Maybe our current phones are supported. I haven’t tried because I cannot multitask when one of those tasks is driving. I just get the music rolling and leave it be while I drive.
