Your Cannondale brings back great memories. Each year, my younger brother and I would go to South Padre Island. It was windsurfing (F2 and Mistral), and we both had a Cannondale. I traded mine for a bottle of bourbon, that fucker still has his...

That’s a beauty. I’ve been looking at the Trek Marlin 6. I really don’t need anything more high performance than that.
That’s as much as I’ll ever need now. I used to have a Gary Fisher dual suspension eons ago when I was younger.

Next would be a new chain. They stretch over time and you can never get them adjusted right. Of course tires and tubes are a huge plus https://www.jensonusa.com/search?q=26%20tire

See if you have a local shop that can do a good tune up on it. Enjoy it.
I have a bag of new cables, but everything is working great so I’m not looking to mess with it. If something breaks, I’ll replace it.
I cleaned the drivetrain and have it some fresh oil. Shifting is pretty good, and being that I live in the flattest place in Earth, I don’t need to shift too often.
I’m going to order a new pair of grips and enjoy it as is for a while.
My 12 year old likes to ride it, so I may end up having to get myself something new anyway.

I’d think about changing out the brake pads too - they might have hardened up over time and not be too grippy.

Nice job bringing it back to life!

I hit the pads with a flat metal file to knock off the shine. They feel good as new, for now. I’ll probably order a new set anyway.

yeah that is what I do also. I also go over the rims where the brakes hit with some green scratch pad to clean off any old material.

I remember riding a zero suspension MT bike just like that (even down to the purple anodized brake calipers) down ski mountains in VT back in '94 - '95 time frame. What a great time!

I can distinctly remember having to manually open my hands after every run down the MT. They'd be locked into almost claws from hanging onto the bicycle grips and brakes.

So true, Chris. It's a ton of fun, and a very light frame that can get away from you. I went over the handles more than a few times trail riding in the Blue Ridge like that.

I recently had a guy I ride with pick up my rigs and do the service (help him out a bit) ....and he dropped off a JAMIS SEQUEL for me to ride while he was doing the service..

if you are not looking to hit trails or enter Tour de France check out Urban Commuter bikes like the one I mentioned..... or Giant Toughroad, Kona Dew, Cannondale Quick, etc....... nice rides. more upright, comfortable -- come in 650B or 29er.

bikes are like watches..... N+1

I dig those, specially the first one. I'm not a fan of road bike because I like jumping curbs and shit. Also, my best time on the local paved trail is on my fixed road bike, vs. my mountain bike... guess not being able to rely on the gears makes me push myself harder

I've been thinking about putting meatier tires on the fixie or selling it and getting a fix mtb.

It is so flat over here I hardly ever need to use gears. I love the simplicity of this bike.

I see a lot of people on fat bikes, but I don’t really get the point of it where I live. They certainly look great, though.

I guess if I was thirty years younger and thirty pounds lighter I might have a use. Image

I need a two speed for my local trails. Image

If you can find a dealer, look at the Giant Talon instead—we sell both at our shop, and for the same or less money you get better level components.

I hate cruisers. That’s not even remotely similar.

Edit: I thought you meant beach cruisers. My God, those suck.
Those big BMX bikes are uncomfortable. I need to be able to stretch out.

What you do recommend for n+1. I have a trek stache for mtb. I love the bike, but thinking about another for light trail and road work.

I rented a Pugsly at a ski resort in Colorado a few winters ago and it was a blast riding on groomed snowy cross country trails.
