Dumb-Ass Question
Are we at the point where we should be concerned, health-wise, about purchasing watches and straps on-line?
Re: Dumb-Ass Question
If you take a few more precautions than you ordinarily would, it shouldn't be a problem. Any virus on objects should be gone in a few days at the most. Maybe wash your hands after unpacking and wipe down a watch with disinfectant. I received a strap in the mail yesterday. Just in case there's any virus on it that survived the shipping time, I'll let it sit for a few days to be safe.
No, it's not Tourettes.

Re: Dumb-Ass Question
That's not a dumb question at all Matt, and you know hadn't even thought
about things like this to tell you the truth. Thanks for asking it Matt, and
thank you for the suggestions too Chuck.
Guess will just use common sense.

Covid-19 can last for days, so as Chuck wrote, either let it sit or spray it up with some of that Lysol spray you are cleaning with.

If it's a dive watch, I would wash it with soap...

Re: Dumb-Ass Question
A recent study says the virus can survive on hard surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel for up to 72 hours and on cardboard for up to 24 hours. Better to be safe than sorry so wipe it down.
Re: Dumb-Ass Question
i receive anywhere from 2-15 laptops for repair every day from around the country. we've changed how we receive them in that now we don't touch until nitrile gloves are on and the Clorox wipes (one per unit) are out. i can see using the wipes on a watch, but who knows how leather/nylon/rubber will react to the approved disinfectants.
latest study suggests the virus can survive 2-3 days on most hard surfaces (interestingly, only 4hrs on copper). there was evidence it can last up to 24hrs on cardboard.

Re: Dumb-Ass Question
I use alcohol wipes on my phone and watches. That should be fine- hell If it’s a watch with bracelet run it under water and scrub it down with soap.
Only issue I see is leather. Let it set near a window for a few days and it’ll be fine.

Re: Dumb-Ass Question
Will my 200M rated dive watch survive a Lysol spray?
Re: Dumb-Ass Question
I reckon keep it quarantined in the package you receive it on for 7 days after sent date
Still worried open and leave on a sunny window sill for a few days
