A.F.0210. one piece nato

Post by ChuckW » Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:22 am

Got the A.F.0210. strap yesterday from Rob Frasier. It's an an authentic reproduction of a WWII canvas strap right down to the brass hardware. I was surprised not to see the canvas keeper I'd seen in photos and thought it may have been left out. Also, at 260mm w/o the buckle it was 10mm shorter than I'd ordered. I contacted Rob and after explaining and telling him I had a 7.75" wrist, he offered to send me another one with the fabric keeper and 290mm long.

After playing with the strap a little more, I decided to email Rob and cancel the other strap, thanking him for his consideration. The length is actually pretty good for a no fold over, no loop back fit and I figured out that the fabric keeper was a custom option that would actually make strap changing more difficult.

I have to say that the canvas is far more soft and comfortable than I anticipated and looks great. This is a must have for any field watch, vintage or not. The strap has no holes. The buckle tang has a sharp end like a tiny nail and it has infinite adjustability. While I have several watches that this strap would look great on, the brown dialed Hamilton seems the obvious choice.

The Original (khaki) strap comes in 17.5, 20, and 22mm widths and lengths of 250 and 270mm, while the black and O.D. green straps only come in 17.5mm. Custom lengths are offered as well as an RAF strap option that can be done in custom widths.

Not many single pass canvas options out there. What I found had round Zulu rings and the dreaded second loop.

I dunno, but I guess you could ask him. The brass hardware will probably darken as it tarnishes.

Haveston has a nice selection of canvas single pass. They're a little thicker and not as soft as the A.F.0210., but does have a floating second keeper and offers hardware in polished, brushed, and PVD. The A.F.0210. has more of a historical military look.

Thank you. Your earlier post actually came to mind. The keepers on the A.F. are quite the thing. Nothing like them available elsewhere unless you patina them yourself.

Most are not actual canvas if I recall. It is more of a thinner tweed style material. Which is not as strong imo.

Looks great; am looking forward to their re-issue of the Timor, too.
