I’m digging the new black alpinist...
...even with the cyclops. Something about it... a quirky 114270 meets new SD. The price is a bit much, though.

Wonder if the 6R35 is any good?

I like it and as I become more and more reliant upon "readers," I become less and less concerned about the cyclops lol

New around $820 or a little less. I don't think around $600 is a bad price considering the movement.

I'm not a fan of the second crown. Otherwise, it's cool.

I personally thought the mm200's seemed like it a better watch finish wise to me. Wasn't the green alpinist around $400 new?

Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
I remember the sarb017 being $380 when I bought one. Or was it $360? I forget... That’s what makes this hard to swallow.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 10:17 amI personally thought the mm200's seemed like it a better watch finish wise to me. Wasn't the green alpinist around $400 new?
I think the mm200 is overpriced as well. It’s like we forgot the $400 Sumo was the highest priced SS 6r15 just a few years ago.
I don’t think an extra 20hr PR is worth another $300

Agree that MM200 is probably better constructed and finished. Still that Alpinist looks good even if I don't like cathedral hands that much.

Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
Remove the wart and the watch looks good. However if the ONLY improvement from the 6r15 to the 6r35 is the extra 20 hour PR, then hell no it's not worth the extra $300.
Just 20 more hours of inconsistent time keeping as far as I'm concerned.

I don’t know about these, but I am super impressed with the MM200. Significant step up from the Turdles IMO.

I tend to do this when I go on a gun buying spree. Watches as a whole begin to look awfully expensive as the perceived value isn’t nearly what you get out of a firearm.
The new white and green alpinists seem to come with that same crap leather strap.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
I think it looks great. I wish the cream dial version came with a bracelet option.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
I read a review that claimed the newer ones were better, but I can’t remember where. I know they come with deployant clasps.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
That’s good. I have a sarb017 deployant on a heuerville for my 6139-6005. It’s a quality single deployant assuming it’s the same. For awhile the deployant clasps we’re slim pickings and commanded a premium.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
The Alpinist works great on custom straps. I wouldn’t even worry about what strap it comes on.

I caved and black dial incoming. Let’s see if it sticks.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
All Seikos are that way too. My NAFT is very accurate after I regulated it and it is still that way after selling and reaquiring it, but let the reserve run down and it’s all over the place.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
I owned the SARB017 for all of two hours. Was not impressed with the color.
They nailed it with this one and the bracelet completes the package quite nice! Size is perfect on my 7.5" wrist. It's the perfect Exp1 alternative IMHO.
Cyclops is quite small. I actually don't mind it at all as it doesn't scream "look at my Rolex" as much as it is practical.
Time is currently on the second so fingers crossed it stays that way or even goes a bit fast as I hate a slow watch.

Inconsistent timekeeping on an iso rated diver at $130 (skx009)? I’m good with that.
Same with a well executed watch for $350 (old alpinist)? Still fine
Unregulated movement in a $1000 MM300? Ok
But the moment the prices get multiplied by 2.5x, I do expect the movements to perform better.
This. I went nuts for a SLA033 for a while but doing the shopping, kept thinking about that unregulated 8L35....like for the money these guys want a more easily serviced Swiss option seems available in every style.
That said, I had two MM300s back when they were priced fair and I love my arnie and my SRP777.
Has anyone ever heard from Seiko why they don’t regulate in the more expensive models? Surely the question has been asked.
Re: I’m digging the new black alpinist...
I didn’t appreciate how much less noticeable the smaller cyclops is. That’s a great improvement, especially given that I’ve developed this new habit of peeking at small things under my glasses (old guy eyes?). I’d like to see an Alpinist with a silver dial similar to that Rolex. I guess I could settle for white.
