How Many Vets Do We Have Here?
How Many Vets Do We Have Here?
Just out of curiousity, given yesterday was Veterans Day, how many vets do we have here? I had a brief, glorious career in the Air Force as a Persian Linguist.

Re: How Many Vets Do We Have Here?
US Navy active duty 1980-1984 US Naval reserve 1985-2002
Boot Camp San Diego when people nock emigrants take a look at my two company commanders in boot camp there from the Philippines we won the Captains trophy for being the best boot camp company at the time he had his name a few more times on that trophy before he had our company so good at what he does plus a Chief petty officer a hard thing to get just some thing to think about this veterans day. And a funny thing only bumped into one person from boot camp once in my navy career in Pusan Korea when on my second ship the USS Mauna Kea AE-22 .
Mess cranking for 90 days in the mess deck on the USS Proteus AS-19 every peon E-3 and below get stuck with this was like a jail sentence you had to move from Deck berthing and move to supply berthing a pain in the ass was glad to get back to 2 Div. Deck after 90 days. When we were allowed beards the senior chief of the mess decks wanted me to cut it off hell I fought it and won I kept it until the Navy said E-3 and below cant have it and E-4 and above can so made E-4 and grew it back then the Navy took it away for good due to getting a good fit with a gas mask and OBA a breathing device for fighting fires aboard ship.
If it was not for Special Boat Unit Eleven stealing me from SIMA 520 were at SIMA at Naval Air Alemeda I was making 50 ft long boat covers on a 1940's sewing machine and flight deck nets and one job I hated making over 1000 lube oil bags for the USS Enterprise they were like gold dust bags I would of quit the reserve. SBU XI was a fun unit was halve active duty and halve reserve and a close unit even though when we did the PRT test you had to do the run and the 500 yard swim not the choice of just one of them not like the rest of the Navy was like a marathon. Only unit I make reunions for since the Navy cuts and it's decommission. It was like active duty every drill week end. I will never forget the first gulf war were they made us do our wills made sure our war bags had all there equipment then it ended so fast we never had to go to bad that did not happen to the one now imagine PBR's from Vietnam era on the rivers of Iraq it came close. Glad I did it and glad when I did the reserve I was never in a reserve center stuck in a class room looking at four walls like most of them do today.
