Finally Took the Plunge on Vintage

I have toyed with the idea of picking up a vintage watch for a while, but was daunted by my lack of knowledge.

But with alot of kind insights and advice from River Rat, I exercised the patience he counseled on and found a nice RAF 53.

These are some really cool watches, with lots of good vintage vibe to them. It keeps incredibly good time, and the tritium even glows a bit after exposure to a strong light. What is particularly special to me about this one is that its my birth year watch. Not too many pieces from those days in a wearable size (37mm). Just like me, it shows its age but is still going....

Congrats. You did good. Now you need to get a gray NATO strap for it. Here is a strap I been thinking of getting for mine a little different than most NATO but like the one were NATO design came from. Lucky you got a issue watch of your birth year I have two probable ones from 1958 a Junhgans and Hanhart Bund just there records are not exact some times you cant believe a seller. My Junghans Bund is the closest thing to 1958. Do have a civilian Omega seamaster with paper work from 1958 a sure thing as a birth year watch. So another congrats for a sure thing military issued birth year watch.

My first vintage Omega was a Seamaster from 1956. It has a special place in my collection.

What do these go for and are they serviceable? I imagine so if it's a basic movement under the hood.

The lugs appear longer so I imagine it has a bit more presence than the 36Exp which worked quite well on my 7.5" wrist.

Most watchmakers can service them. When I first got mine I dropped it on the kitchen floor lucky it landed flat on the crystal it cracked the crystal and damaged the movement thank god no case damage. My local watchmaker fixed and service the movement and I supplied the crystal good as new. And original crystal can still be had if you know were to look.

The original vintage Omega railmaster had the same case and movement design only difference dial and hands. And this is cheaper than a vintage railmaster.
