A $6k Helson ???

Tantalum is a unique material but it’s not gold.

Re: A $6k Helson ???
It's because it's tantalum.

Yup, it's evidently very similar to Adamanitium, and Vibranium.
Re: A $6k Helson ???
Maybe it stood out because many of the other specialty materials are nickel alloys? Aren’t some people allergic to nickel?

I like quite a few of Helsons watches but I wouldn't buy that one even it were stainless steel. It's not the prettiest of watches.

Well you are getting a lot of expensive metal, 45 x 18 mm, and water resistance for your 6k.

That case is even worse than the modern Sub. "It's a shitta!" as fat Archy would say
Re: A $6k Helson ???
It also weighs more on rubber that a Planet Ocean XL or Rolex Deepsea.

Re: A $6k Helson ???
Gold is approximately $50,000/kg and Rolex sells a similarly blocky sub made out of it for $35,000, so that seems unlikelytattoo chef wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:56 pmTantalum is $218 a kilogram.
It’s very expensive stuff, also highly corrosion resistant.
I didn’t look at the ad but figure they probably didn’t make many. I’m sure they will sell a few and that will be all.
I wouldn’t pay 6 grand for a Helson, but I applaud the uniqueness of using that metal.
I can only imagine if Omega or Rolex made it, it would be $60,000.

Barnum, even though he didn't say it, was right.

I own and wear both of these on rubber, and wouldn’t want ANYTHING heavier than either on my wrist.hoppyjr wrote:It also weighs more on rubber that a Planet Ocean XL or Rolex Deepsea.

I like my $300 brass 42mm Shark Diver. Can’t imagine spending much more for a Helson.gwells wrote:i like my helson, but $600 like it, not $6000 like it. and this one is not that great. awfully blocky and chunky.

Re: A $6k Helson ???
You are correct, and I’m bad at kilograms and ounces etc. I thought a kilogram was less than it is, so yeah, tantalum isn’t really that expensive compared to gold.JP Chestnut wrote: Gold is approximately $50,000/kg and Rolex sells a similarly blocky sub made out of it for $35,000, so that seems unlikely
I looked up some watches made of tantalum or with tantalum elements, and while very expensive, are all luxury brands like Hublot, Zenith or Panerai, and they can command the pricing.
I am now wondering if even one person will drop $6,000 on a Helson, and why.
In the end it’s not could you make it, but SHOULD you make it, and they probably shouldn’t have.

That website and its fonts looks like it was designed by me as a high-schooler in the 90s.
Re: A $6k Helson ???
I can see one of these come up for sell 20-60 years from now and since it’s a no name watch co no one remembers at the time they are buying it to melt the case for the metal content for $$ and throwing away the movement. Kind of what they do to pocket watches today but funny thing even the Rolex name saves a pocket watch from being melted down for the gold content.
Re: A $6k Helson ???
I would buy one for $700 or so because of the material, but not for $6k.
Re: A $6k Helson ???
I wonder if they’ve sold any? I have no desire to purchase one but am tempted to put a WatchRecon search out there to see if anyone tries to sell one.
