Longines Big Eye vs. Farer Big Eye

I think they both look nice and they're both around the same price. I'm just curious. Would anyone choose the Farer over the Longines?

Are they close in size?

Not me. I think the Longines is the nicer of the two watches. I'd also feel more comfortable owning a watch from a Swatch group company than a relatively new upstart.

Having owned the Longines id go farer b cause the lugs were a bit odd on the Longines and I love the case shape of the Farer. Both are great

I tend to agree with Brice on this one, particularly with regard to the Longines lug length. I am a bit biased, owning 2 Farers, however. I think the finish and quality of the watch is something to behold. But I understand being leery of a micro brand, who knows where it will be in 5 years. I think it’s a matter of taste.

I have no issues with the lugs on the Big Eye.

I bet the finishing on the Farer is better.

Longines Big Eye vs. Farer Big Eye

Post by matt.wu » Sat Oct 12, 2019 4:16 pm

I think Farer comes up with unique designs and focuses well on finishing, both of which I respect.

Unfortunately, I really don’t like the way most of their watches look.

At a similar price point, it’s a no-brainer. I take the established brand every time.

I've never had a chance to see one in person. I'm hoping to make it to Wind Up NYC in a couple of weeks to see their whole lineup.

Looks wise, hands down the Longines. Cleaner, more refined looking.

I own 2 (wait, now 3—just ordered one of the new handwind chronos). I’m not usually a micro guy, but the finish and detail work on the Farers is way out of their price range. I realize their designs/color schemes doesn’t appeal to all, but they are striking if nothing else. I have yet to see one that I didn’t like (and I’m pretty old school on watches and designs).

Looks are a personal thing
Quality wise the Farer has nicer dials and case finish is at least as nice. They use good mvts too. They’re here to stay at imho and they have amazing CS. I’m a fan of the Big Eye though the lugs bugged me a bit. It’s also kinda thick. Farer usually makes very wrist friendly watches.
I’m actually gonna put up for sale my Le Farer GMT pointing To fund that bee chrono posted here.

The Longine is about $900 more but for that money you get a column wheel chrono. It seems a bit dressier and more towards aviation where the Farer seems more like a racing chrono. I lean towards the Longine but the Farer is interesting.

I like the Longines better overall. Not too big a fan of green accents on the Farer. Although I do like the tach bezel on the Farer... Just my opinion.

I prefer the Longines. Both are very nice, however the Longines has a much cleaner, simpler look to me. Sterile bezel wins, as does the mono color scheme.

Kind of on the same lines (albeit much more classic):

Think I will maybe have to test both out to make a final decision Paul.
No, but seriously, they both look terrific to me. ..With the Longines
having a more elegant way about it, and the Farer a more sportier side.

They look like they could be brothers !! 8-) 8-) ..Thanks very much !

This ^^^ sums it up for me. Here I prefer the Longines...by some distance, but there are other Farer releases (though not part of this conversation) that I do find quite striking.

Saw it at Windupnyc. It was nice, but after seeing it I would go with the Longines.

I did really like the blue dial version though, and the Lander blue/green dial chrono was my favorite from the brand.

Ultimately I ended up with the Stowa Flieger Big-Eye with manual wind movement.
