Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
Re: Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
Now that’s an easy interesting question. How do we feel about buying a cloned movement from Noob to source parts for an out of production original/vintage movement?

We’re probably going to need to do it for Rolex if they keep up their bullshit.

Good watchmakers can make some parts. Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and skill. Most customers I have worked with are not in the caliber of paying for one off parts to be made.watchmavan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 10:49 pmYes I know who Terry is and have bought from him a dozen or more times before. I have also owned quite a few vintage watches and never had trouble with servicing. I've also owned a 50 year old Beetle and had no trouble obtaining parts because of the sheer amount of parts available still.JP Chestnut wrote:Weird comment. Terry isn’t some dude screwing around with watches. He has facilitated service of many customer watches at this point. If Terry says that parts for this movement are hard to come by, there’s no reason to doubt him - unless you yourself have easy access to parts for this movement. If so, then start supplying Terry.watchmavan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 8:36 pmWell If you want to fix a movement yourself then I guess parts might be hard to come by. But like any old watch, a reletively capable watchmaker will be able to accomplish this. Right now I'm wearing a watch with a movement that ceased production in 1971. No problems with servicing.

The 7730 is based on a Venus 188 with most parts exactly the same. Venus 188 are currently being made under another guise in China with parts a plenty just from China. Many parts are also the same as those used in the 7750 which are still being made today. There are some parts that are hard to get but as I said a good watchmaker, of which I don't think has contributed to the post already would be able to source. We are talking about a calibre "family" that was used for "Decades". The company supplied calibres to half the of the chronos made for over 20 years. There are thousands of them as a source of parts and in vintage watches being sold every day. It was then the base for the development of the 7750.
But then a good watchmaker could also fashion the part themselves as well.

No way I would I ever put aftermarket parts in a customers watch. The biggest issue is lack of quality. The few parts I received from one of our supply houses to replace nonexistent parts were crude. Pretty disappointing actually. I would rather buy original used parts in good shape than crap.
There is a limited supply of parts from a 7750 that will fit on a 7734 as far as I know. I have yet to get concrete info on what parts are interchangeable.
The Beetle is not a fair comparison at all to the 7734. There are companies who actually still produce parts with factory specs to fit the cars. That is not true with the 7734.
Like I said imo it is bad business to put a out of date movement in a new watch. Either way great discussion. If you have any info you can share for sources on parts I would greatly appreciate it.

This is exactly what I lobbied for from Doxa. I’m just struggling with the price. One Minute, I’m like F that, and the next I’m justifying it.

Lazslo, my watchmaker, has been amassing parts for fifty years. He’s got over a million of them. I assume there are other watchmakers with similar inventory.

Re: Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
You probably right. This doesn't equate to parts available at watch supply houses or from the manufacturer. So the only resort is ebay. Not cool on a new watch.
The way it usually happens is a watch whole seller will find some NOS movements and try and sell them to some watch company at a discounted rate. Once those movements are sold the watch company is pretty much on their own to fix any issues they encounter. I think this is the same thing that Resco encountered with the Russian movement. There are a few other companies i know that have also had this issue. They would be been better off using a 7750 and calling it good. They already produced a watch thick enough to house it.

That’s not what we asked for, Terry. We asked for a hand cranker. Now, I’m now movement guy as to what they chose, but it’s what the die-hard re-release guys wanted. The original movement was an Eberhard movement. Doxa bought out Eberhard and took 900 movements and modified them to suite their needs. Very robust movements that have lasted 50 years. To your point, however, after 50 years there are unavailable parts for some issues that come about (my dead sharky for example)

Sorry Mike I wasn't involved with what you guys asked for. I was stating what I thought was a better solution.demer03 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 12:38 amThat’s not what we asked for, Terry. Sorry to hear about the Sharky. Sounds like Lazslo has some parts available if need be

Oh, I get it. I, for one, didn’t realize hand-wind meant vintage movement. I assumed something like that was still available. It definitely opens a whole different can of worms.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 6:30 amSorry Mike I wasn't involved with what you guys asked for. Oh and that shark Hunter is long gone. There were no parts available and they couldn’t be made. That’s the risk with the old Tgraphs. One minute it’s an expensive watch and the next minute it’s a paperweight…

I really want this one bad. I keep going to the watch box to see how many I’d have to sell to make it happen. Might have to gigolo myself out for the next ten days. Will have to think about it.....
Re: Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
I got the email back when they announced these. Then I was disappointed to see they are being produced with the vintage Valjoux 7734 movement. I don't need or want a vintage movement. I'm hoping after this release they produce a standard run with a modern chrono movement..... at the standard chrono T-Graph price. I'd buy one.
Re: Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
I like the idea of a modern movement, too.

For better or worse, it’ll be here on Monday. Just got my shipping update from Fedex. Was it a mistake.... probably, did I over pay..... definitely. Taking it diving on the 28th, should be fun.
Re: Doxa sub 200 t-graph chrono in stainless. 9/2/19 launch
Mine just arrived!
Probably won't get a chance to size it and wear it until tonight, but first impressions are very good. Not too huge and the thickness is not as overt as I was thinking it might be.
A couple non-wrist pics, including next to the SD4K. It does not dwarf the SD4K as I might have imagined, which is a very good think for me.
