New edition Bulova Moonwatch?

Post by sierra11b » Wed Jul 10, 2019 3:30 pm

Didn't know there were other styles of the Bulova Apollo 15 moon watch until checking Jomashop for prices of the original 2016 version on bracelet.

Ran across the ref. 96A225 which is the same watch but the case is all polished and the "BULOVA" font on the dial resembles the original worn by David Scott which I thought were cool touches. Apparently they did a black coated version as well...

Still the same big ass watch but at $300 decided to give it another shot. I have 7.5" wrist and the size was right on the cusp of being too big lug-to-lug. We'll see if she sticks around. If only they'd make it 42mm it would have be a home run for all to partake.

https://www.jomashop.com/bulova-lunar-p ... ge-nosto-1

The listing (and Bulova's site) don't represent the polish well but photos from wus clearly represent a mirror polished case all around. Also, the stock photos from Bulova's site suggest a domed crystal but the other forum also confirmed it's still the raised edge sapphire(?) which I'm not a big fan of. Oh well.

The '16 version I sold my buddy has been holding HAQ-like accuracy so why not give it another go?

Good choice, I had one of those too and really liked it a lot. In the pictures it looks taller then it is, it was actually wearing really well.

I wish they did a regular 3 hand version of that, I never really cared much for chronographs.

I bought the original one and wore a couple times, then gave to my son. It’s a nice piece and I wouldn’t mind owning this revised version with no date window.

I had one and liked it, but found it slightly too big. Gave it to someone here..

That’s 3 for 3 in giving it to someone else. Dude I “sold” it to bought me lunch... his father was a Apollo15 rocket engineer and he has 8.5”wrists, so he’s loving it currently.

Like I said, I thought the new finishing touches and price was enough to try and rekindle the flame. It’s a very nice watch the the accuracy seems superb based on reviews including my first hand account.

I like this polished version, hadn't seen it before. Hope you like it!

Have to say though, I get anxiety just looking at the edges of the raised crystals on these

Tried the original version and liked it. Bang on accurate (though I think the battery life is shorter than a standard quartz watch). Great looking, too. I'd say it wears a little smaller than its specs, but still ended up being too big for me. If you're a moonwatch/speedy pro fan and either can't afford the Omega or want something with the same look that you can wear as a beater, the Bulova is an excellent choice.

Is it correct that the original is a 30M watch, and the newer one is 50M?

The original being the one Scott wore or the 2016 re-edition vs. the one in the OP? All the modern ones have 50m on the case back.

Came today and it's quite nice.

Mini review:

Simply put, if you had one, sold it, and sometimes reconsider like I did, this is the best version, and especially at the price I paid. Dial is much more balanced with the no-date and with the old style Bulova font. It simply works here and has that period-correct vibe for certain.

The polished bits is icing on the cake and well done... The brushed is nice but seemed like it was missing some contrast whereas the entirely polished watch is somewhat flashy, but still not over the top on nato or strap.

You’re the devil.

Edit: I also like how they didn’t mess these up with a bunch of dial text. Other brands could learn a thing or two.

Love it. I’m just a bit scared of the size.

Some watches, like the MM300 or Shogun hide their size. This guy looks like it wears true to size.

For the price I might just buy one to try it out. If it doesn’t stick, I can always give it to my dad who designed the life support systems on those missions (all the way up through the Shuttle). He’d appreciate it.

$284 now on jomashop.

If you have a $10 off code that’s a great deal. Wonder if they’ll discount further?

This watch looks incredible on a NATO. Agree on size.

The watch definitely covers a lot of real estate, but the manageable lug to lug and 20mm lug width make it wear a bit smaller than its specs (the tachy bezel helps, too). Like I said, it was still a bit too large for me, but I have girly wrists. And it was very comfortable.

You could always find a way to mount it on your dashboard or create a desk stand.

Holy cowza Eric, this one really is out of this world to be honest ! :headbang:
Think your awesome pictures really show how exceptional a job
Bulova did on these, and how much care was put into every detail. :o

I mean the dial alone really is perfect, and the dueling levels of
it are outstanding as well. ..How about that beautiful case?!
It's dual finishes?! Or those pushers?! Terrific case-back, and
nice NATO?!! Unbelievable stuff ! BIG congrats here !!!

Hope you really are enjoying ! :)

Anyone here buy the no-date polished version and want to sell it?

Those were a steal but I waited too long.
