Seiko 6139 prices
Re: Seiko 6139 prices
So true. I was one of those idiots who sold a 1675 for about $3800 without bracelet 5yrs ago.
I just think this guy is adding a good $600 for the Spencer connection. It's dumb.

It is dumb. All the price gouging and trying to get over on everyone is killing the fun.
Re: Seiko 6139 prices
Sure is.
I'm not giving up on the 6139 just yet as I don't think everyone got the gouging memo. I'm certainly not done procuring parts for mine. Like I said, part number 888612 and/or complete 6139B movements will set me apart someday. I hope.

lets call it upselling. I remember the guys on wrist sushi complaining just a few years ago you couldn't sell a 6139 for what you had into it.

And I recall questions on why 6138s were selling for a premium and 6139s were not. I guess they got their wish. Some of those dudes are sitting on some gems. Good for them.

I'd add the 3251 to JP's list.Seppia wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:56 amI may need to look into IWC more, I know almost nothing about them.JP Chestnut wrote:
Watches like the IWC 3227, 3228, 3706, 3536, and Mark XV have all been down or flat for the last couple of years. A 3227 at $3500 is an almost unbeatable value for a real Genta watch.

That's a cool one, but too thick for me as a three hander. I'll excuse some thickness for a chronograph, but not for a GMT that functions less well than my 16710. The nice thing about that reference is that it's very cheap and uses the same bracelet as the more expensive 3706.logan2z wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 7:22 amI'd add the 3251 to JP's list.Seppia wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:56 amI may need to look into IWC more, I know almost nothing about them.JP Chestnut wrote:

Re: Seiko 6139 prices
It’s all pretty insane. I contacted him a few years ago to service a 6306-7001 and seems like he quoted me almost $500 for a basic movement service, case rebuild, and a 10 month turnaround. I had it done for about $200 somewhere else and still have it. His 6139 service is probably much higher and I don’t think he’s even taking new work right now. Knowing the cost of his service and him not taking new work, I’m sure the sellers will find a buyer will to pay the premium, just wont be me.

A little over a millimeter thicker than the Rolex. Not too horrible.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:55 amThat's a cool one, but too thick for me as a three hander. Re: Seiko 6139 prices
dang. I have a couple 6139's that I have been wanting to get serviced for years. Guess I should have done it sooner.

I had nothing against the guy- Spencer- until he started scalping people. When I’ve talked to him in the past he was always very nice and helpful.
I don’t know if I should be mad at the idiots buying these at stupid prices or him for asking that much. I guess since I’m a hater I’ll choose to be mad at both.

Definitely not crazy, but it’s a bit chunky next to the mark xv.logan2z wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 9:49 amA little over a millimeter thicker than the Rolex.
