Rally Diver

Post by KidKeith » Sat May 18, 2019 7:08 am

Just got my rally diver back from a service by Spencer Klein. So stoked. He had this lady for a while (18 months-ish), but well worth the wait. She was in rough shape when I sent her out.

Cheers!

Looks great. What was your work scope? Blast case, new crystal, and clean the mold off the lume? Asking because I’m thinking about what to do with my Pogue.

Seiko looks great. Love those vintage Rally divers.

My watchmaker has had a vintage Super Squale I sent in for a dial and hands relume about that same length of time. Driving me nuts.

Screw that. I would find another watchmaker.

Am going to. You guys do vintage restoration work?

Yes but we do not do lume work. We will do the hands if we have to but matching them sucks. One thing about vintage is parts. Collecting parts to fix watches does take some time.

Below is a link of the watch when I sent it in. A complete mess.

It did take a while, but I have a few in the collection so I didn't miss it too bad. 18 months is a very long time, but I'm a patient man :)

Klein has been backlogged for awhile. I reached out to him years ago and he told me I could wait, but was still nice enough to answer some questions regarding my 6139, and which parts to secure on eBay, after I declined the wait period.

I ended-up using another maker out of SoCal for two 6139s when Terry was just getting started in the strap world, but have sent him an early ceramic golden tuna for work which turned out great.

Last he told me he is at 2 years. Seems like people are getting disinterested in their watches after he has them so long that some people do not want to pay.

After 2 years a person’s taste in watches could easily change. I can easily imagine the “wtf what I thinking” moment when the x-hundred dollars bill comes due, although I’d cough up the dough because that’s the right thing to do.... I assume he charges part up front.

This is making me consider putting the pogue out on the sales block.

Why would you sell the pogue because of this? Other people can service it also.

I wouldn't sell it because of the wait. More so because I'm less attracted to it now than when I bought it. It's the blue/black version, so I guess not a true Pogue.
