Glashutte Original Spezimatic divers
Glashutte Original Spezimatic divers
Looks like they just did a remake of the Spezimatic divers. So if you like really large numerals, you must be excited. Vintage pic above, new ones here:

Not something I'd expect from GO but kind of interesting. I get the vintage roots, but a bit small for a diver at 39mm IMHO. I'm a big GO fan so curious to see them in person.

Love the big date on Glashütte. Not sure it works on these new ones

The versions without the big date (which are closest in design to the original) are 39.5mm.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 4:09 amWhere are yo I seeing 39mm?

Don't love the big date on these.
Re: Glashutte Original Spezimatic divers
Interesting. The case is reminiscent of the Seiko 62MAS. I like the fact they color matched the date wheels.
The 4 o’clock date window location isn’t great, but I think it’s cool that they squared it instead of the more typical angled numbers. It’s different and purposeful. I just need to get used to it.

9,700 Euro on bracelet. Re: Glashutte Original Spezimatic divers
The 39.5 model is a LE of about 50 if I read correctly. The regular model looks different and is 43.

Only the '1969' model, that most closely replicates the original, is an LE. The other 39.5mm models are not.

The SLA017 is one of the few Seikos I like, but I think the comparison is apples and oranges.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 6:08 am9,700 Euro on bracelet. I don't know enough about the 39-11 movement to argue that point, but both are visually similar, limited edition, stainless steel sport / dive watches. They have identical water resistance and nearly identical dimensions. Vastly differing price points.logan2z wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 7:24 amThe SLA017 is one of the few Seikos I like, but I think the comparison is apples and oranges.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 6:08 am9,700 Euro on bracelet. I don't want to come across as one of those "my Seiko is a good as your Rolex" guys, but I couldn't help but notice the visual similarities (Arabic numerals aside).
(If I were one of those guys I might also point out that Seiko produced their 6217 4 years prior to GO releasing their Spezimatic diver, so there is the possibility the Seiko influenced the GO design.)

Point taken, there are many visual similarities.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 8:19 amI don't know enough about the 39-11 movement to argue that point, but both are visually similar, limited edition, stainless steel sport / dive watches. GO versus SLA.jpg
I don't want to come across as one of those "my Seiko is a good as your Rolex" guys, but I couldn't help but notice the visual similarities (Arabic numerals aside).
My experience with GOs tells me that they're very finely made/finished watches. The movements are finished to a high standard, dials and cases are made in-house and beautifully done, etc. I don't have the same experience with Seikos but my understanding is that, with the possible exception of Grand Seikos, they are not at the same level - nor would I expect them to be given the disparity in price points. That said, I'm not in love with this particular GO and wouldn't drop $10K on it.
Re: Glashutte Original Spezimatic divers
I agree 100%. Again, I was just taken with the visual similarities between the two.
In reality, we could probably find a dozen other models from this era with similar case designs. Like most things in watch making, the devil is in the details (and therefore the price premium).
I actually like this GO. I don’t $10K like it, but if I rolled in the income bracket where a $10K purchase was an “impulse buy”, I’d probably hit it.

I'm sure the GO is made to a nicer standard, but I think the Seiko is probably a little better looking.

One word of caution to a serial flipper like yourself: While great watches, GOs can take a real beating on the secondary market.rockmastermike wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 9:15 amYep - has me contemplating things (depending on price)

They're all 8,500-8,800 Euros on strap (depending on buckle). The non-LE is available on bracelet for 9,700 Euros.rockmastermike wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 8:57 amSo the 39.5 LE is 9,700 euros.....how much is the regular production 39.5 size?
