This edition of the Weiss Gauge Series was inspired by Cameron’s journey across the country from Los Angeles to Charleston, South Carolina and back with his 1971 Land Rover Series truck. With American Issue Field watches, camping gear, and dogs in tow, Cameron embarked on a journey that would take him from the city streets of L.A. through the Rocky Mountains, Texas hill country, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the Great Smokey Mountains, and so much more. So, it is only fitting that we have designed a special limited-edition American Issue Field Watch with CAL 1003 that pays tribute to the classic details of the gauges on the dashboard of our Weiss Rover. There are 21 Light Green and 50 Black versions for a total of just 71 to match the model year of the truck. This limited-edition is also the first of any Weiss timepieces to feature fully luminescent numerals for even greater visibility in the dark and anywhere life’s journeys take you.

We begin by machining each individual component from solid bars of metal. Depending on the particular part we are machining, this could be steel, brass, or precious metal, all of which are selected for their long tradition of being used as watchmaking alloys. There are close to 150 pieces in our timepiece, with nearly the entire timepiece being machined and hand-finished under one roof at the Weiss studio. Each of the machined micro-components is then meticulously hand-finished by master watchmaker and founder Cameron Weiss, down to the hand-polishing of the smallest screws, which were made right in our workshop. Each hand-decorated movement must be individually jeweled and plated prior to its first test assembly. Only then, if everything fits perfectly, will the timepiece be completely disassembled, cleaned, and assembled in our clean room with the final precision oiling taking place. Each American Issue is our most special offering due to all the machining and hand-finishing that occurs inside our Los Angeles-based studio for the movement and components, as well as the hand-assembly process. Each one is like a little piece of engineering art made by Cameron himself for each client.

This American Issue timepiece is made with our CAL 1003 mechanical movement from our latest production with a higher beat rate of 21,600 BPH paired with a re-engineered mainspring and the addition of a hacking feature that stops the sweep second hand at zero when the crown is pulled out for setting. Developing these three elements advances the accuracy of our timepiece to an all new level. The movement has been hand decorated with Geneva stripes, blued screws, and sunburst rays on the crown and ratchet wheels. This bright silver, rhodium-plated and hand jeweled masterpiece of mechanical timekeeping is fully visible through an open case-back enclosed with sapphire crystal. The dial has been machined from solid naval brass and hand-painted in black paint with white accents proudly declaring our Los Angeles, California heritage. The case is machined from solid 316L stainless steel with sapphire crystals on the front and back for the best scratch resistance available. Hands are a special matte black oxide steel with white luminescent Super-Luminova paint for legibility in the dark. This limited-edition American Issue Field Watch is supplied with our hand-made tan Horween leather strap.

The American Issue Field Watch – Black Weiss Rover Dial is a closed production timepiece limited to just 50 total pieces built by hand. The timepiece and movement are individually numbered, and delivered in our custom-built solid American Red Oak box, also built by hand in the USA.

Front Crystal: Double-domed and beveled sapphire with multi layer anti-reflective coating on the inside surface

Back Crystal: Beveled sapphire

Water Resistance: 330 feet/ 100 meters

Band: 20mm Tan Horween leather strap, and 18mm stainless steel buckle

That's different Terry, and check out how the dial takes from the speedometer
of the range Rover like that. It's subtle, but just the way the numbering is
done is neat, and changes things up. It's just a neat way to stand out from other
field watches imho.

I love Weiss, aside from the logo itself. I like what they are doing and what they stand for. I really like the white standard field model.
