Anyone brought a watch back via Newark?
Long story short I picked up a new Tudor in Paris. VAT refund/AD discount made it make sense.
Gonna be flying back into Newark tomorrow and am debating about declaring/not declaring... anyone have any experience/thoughts??

Re: Anyone brought a watch back via Newark?
i was asking the same thing when i did a cruise last year. Opted not to buy but when we got back to US in FL, they never even asked me whether i had anything to claim etc......i didnt buy as i got a better deal in the states. I think this is one of those grey areas where you can either wear the watch and ship the box, stick in luggage and hope for the best, or claim it.......

It’s not super dire consequences... 3% of the purchase price minus 1600$.

My research agrees with this for SS, non-precious metal, watches.Aaron Shapiro wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 12:47 pmericf4 wrote:i was asking the same thing when i did a cruise last year. Of course not. Everyone who works there hates their lives and doesn’t give a shit about their job.Aaron Shapiro wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:53 pmUpdate: all the hand wringing was for naught...they didn’t even ask me.

Why would you say yes anyway?
I’m confused- it’s almost like you can tell on yourself and pay a fee or don’t talk and it’s all good.
I don’t know I don’t travel out of the USA so I have no experience.

I think the reasoning is if you’re caught with items that should be taxed you “could” also be fined. However I think they are more likely looking for contraband as opposed to legitimate purchase.BBK357 wrote:Why would you say yes anyway?
