New Hamiltons

Post by CGSshorty » Sat Feb 02, 2019 12:39 pm

Worn & Wound has an article on some nice variations of two of Hamilton’s best models.
I particularly like the new white dial.

I like that “earth pvd” case treatment. It reminds me of what my grandfather’s tools looked like; worn and well used, but well taken care of.

I had heard a rumor that a white dial was coming - guess it was true :) I wouldn't normally consider buying two of the same watch model, but that white one might make me reconsider.

Agree! The white dial model looks nice.

But I do own two Seiko NAFTs... so what do I know

I love the Intra-Matics, but I'd probably go for the panda variant. And that white dial field mechanical looks incredible, even though I have heard some bad things about that new movement.

Curious as to what you’ve heard regarding the movements. I haven’t followed these too closely but I was under the impression they were pretty solid since I don’t recall anything being mentioned here. They are great looking watches.

I like that they don't have "KHAKI" printed on the dial.

Ha, I knew I was exaggerating. They are long though for 38 😋

I know you knew :) They are fairly long but I think the watch is well proportioned.

I had a shitton of problems with my Uncrate HKFM with the new H50 movement and ultimately got a refund, but that white dial is making me feel like Michael in Godfather 3

I'm confused about the movement discussion. The 38mm handwound Khaki Field uses the ETA 2801-2. Nothing new or special about it, and I've had zero problems with it. The chronograph is a Valjoux 7753 upgraded to a longer power reserve. I haven't owned one of these but would expect it to be pretty reliable considering it's a slightly tweaked tried and true movement.

Maybe the concern is with the automatic khaki fields that use the newer H-10. As you said, the mechanicals like these use the ETA. That said, I’ve never heard about any significant problems with the H-10. It does beat at a lower rate than the ETA.

On edit: Now that I've finally read the link, I see that the new mechanicals are switching to the H-50. Don't know much about that movement (I'm assuming that, like the H-10, it's a more heavily modified ETA - lower beat rate and longer power reserve maybe?). So maybe there are issues as was noted above?

Chris, didn't think that these watches could be, or get any nicer ! :)
That white dial version with stainless case really is beyond cool,
and even the "earth PVD" adds a new wrinkle, and is kind of like
a subtle bronze.

Holy cowza, love the new blue, and white Intramatic as well !!!
Another home run by Hamilton, and it's not even spring training.

Thanks so much sir !
