Hadn't thought of that, although I'm always looking for a reason to get a new watch.

When I started as a lawyer, it was suit and tie every day. Then everyone went business casual (lawyer business casual is collared shirt and khakis - we're a creative bunch). When I took at job with the State, it was back to suits, so I had to upgrade my wardrobe about 10 years ago. I still do casual on Fridays - my own little way of sticking it to the man (I'm a rebel).deepcdvr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 6:06 amI wore some sort of uniform for 30 years, then shifted to the SOF support 'uniform' of tactical pants and polo shirts for 8 years after I retired and became a GS. Now I have a program manager job and have to wear a damn suit and tie at least two weeks out of the month. Wasn't a big deal when I wore off the rack stuff I bought when I retired - and was about 15 lbs heavier - but tailored suits are the norm in my paygrade in DC. To be honest, a well fitting suit is worth the price, but my marinemaster just won't fit.
Definitely worth spending a little more to get nice suits. They look far better, and if you take care of them they'll last.

There's also the Glycine Combat 6 and 7....under $500.

Am I wrong?!deepcdvr wrote:^^ funny guy
Seriously, there are a lot of good options in this thread. I'm not sure myself what the best path would be. Might be tempted with an orient bambino as a simple and inexpensive dress watch.
Or just go do it right with something sporty that still works with your suit...

I'll go against the grain here and say don't buy a new watch. have you tailor add a little room to the sleeves on you watch arm and buck the system a bit! I hated wearing suits when I was in DC. Even at 7 AM, a one block walk from the Metro to the office meant I was soaked in sweat from the summer humidity.deepcdvr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 6:06 amI wore some sort of uniform for 30 years, then shifted to the SOF support 'uniform' of tactical pants and polo shirts for 8 years after I retired and became a GS. NYC is the same in the summer. Those subway platforms in a suit...BacoNoir wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 12:11 pmI'll go against the grain here and say don't buy a new watch. have you tailor add a little room to the sleeves on you watch arm and buck the system a bit! Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch
Another option is to bump up the budget a hair and buy a used Sinn 556. Maintains the serious sports watch look but in a smaller and bit more dressy fashion.
Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch
556 is a good option if you can push for it.
Even tho I'm in DC (ok, Arlington, but close enough) I'm glad I'm in an industry that mostly eschews suits. I haven't worn one here since my job interview. Haven't worn even a tie in 7-8 years.

^^ good stuff
My son lives in Arlington. He’s an engineer and they don’t wear suits there either
The 556 is a great option- I’ve had a couple and really like them but for now I’m going cheap - anyone selling anything?
Oh and I’m not widening my cuffs - i’m a cheap bastard and these were expensive shirts - plus, like I said, I’m looking for a reason to buy another watch
Also, forgot to add that I need a date complication. Plenty of great ideas on this thread, but need a date ‘cause I’m old.

Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch
I don't know when WWII pilot's watches became dress watches, but nice Stowa.
Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch
The black dial Mido and Spinnaker/Hull are very nice. Mido looks like lugs are specific to bracelet though.AtomicTom wrote:Ever check out Tissot's V8 automatics Paul?

The moment I bought mine, silly boy.
Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch
I really don't think you need to go farther than the Seiko Presage if you're looking for a legit dress watch at that price range.
Some of these suggestions are just "small watches".

Where does he work? Randomly curious since we have 25 or so engineers.deepcdvr wrote:My son lives in Arlington. He’s an engineer and they don’t wear suits there either.
