This or That? (Update and plug) or... THIS?

Post by Bradystraps » Thu Nov 15, 2018 6:02 am

I've decided I need an Archimede Pilot in my collection. So, I am waffling back and forth between the classic black hands and the heat blued steel hands.

Which do you prefer?

The heat blued hands will look black in most lighting, so there's not much difference

Black

I had a pilot with blued hands and tried to like it, without success.

That’s my fear as well, Matt. I really like the look of them on the black dial but wondering if I might tire of them after a bit. I usually play it conservative and was trying to get a little outside that box.

Blue. Have you thought about the Stowa Pilot? The blue hands look just right and therefore suit it well. I have have an Archimede and while I love the watch, I always thought the blue hands were too shiny, Stowa seems to have more depth. Image

I have considered the Stowa but like the look/specs of the Archimede better and with it being less expensive, it was a clincher for me.

Still going back and forth on the hands though.

My Stowa has the blue hands and the lighting needs to be perfect to see the blue. It's nice during those blue moments. In the photo, the Archimede blue hands look very pronounced. I don't believe that it stands out like a saxophonist at a Disturbed concert...
Go blue!

Yup. That's the consensus... the blue is much darker in reality than the pictures Archimede advertises, which is fine by me.

After further review and consideration, I decided to pony up the extra $$$ for the Stowa 40mm version of this style watch. I didn't care for their old logo and now that they have the new one, I revisited it. The 40mm size is perfect for me and I prefer the traditional onion crown to the diamond one.

The clincher, Jorg Schauer replying to my email in 3 minutes and agreeing to ship my watch the next day to me allowing me to have by the weekend. Great service!

I have two of those for my Seiko Presage (there's a dark brown option too). Personally I would go with a strap with rivets, they look great with pilot watches.

Good choice going with the Stowa. I have the 40mm non-logo/non-date version from 2013 (before the logo changed).

I dig their pilot strap as well, Joe, and will wear it to sport-down the watch while wearing the Hirsch to dress it up for business.
