TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Has everyone checked out these TAG Heuer Aquaracer Carbon watches
already?
They evidently were inspired by a special Bamford Monaco guys. With just
some of the details including a 41mm grade 5 titanium case with a matte
black PVD coating, 300m WR, sapphire crystal, a carbon bezel, "imitatation
carbon effect" dial with rose gold, blue, or yellow accents, sleek hands, and
markers with gray Super-Lumnova, sporty straps, and the Calibre 5 automatic
(ETA 2824-2).
Some pictures everybody...

Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
At first glance I thought they all had condensation under the crystal, hopefully they don't give that impression in real life. I'd choose the rose gold one, the hands and indices stand out on that one.
Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
I am not a fan of the carbon cased watches. They are mottled plastic as far as I’m concerned. No matter if it is a Tag, Pam, or Mille it is not a material for long term durability. A expected trait of any watch I buy.
Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Ugly as hell but I'd still hit it. Not sure why.
Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Says these are pvd coated titanium cases. Carbon bezel, and "carbon effect" dial..

True I saw that. Still a plastic bezel. Some folks dig it but it is not for me.DoctorC wrote:Says these are pvd coated titanium cases. Carbon bezel, and "carbon effect" dial..
Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Understand that. I have a Luminox with the plastic bezel. Maybe not so coincidentally, the only watch I have with a dinged up bezel..

Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Just wonder what will Carbon turn into in long term. Will they melt like plastic?

Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
Wow, I hope not Kempo. But you know, if put near some real heat, or by a flame, or stove
I guess it would. Never really thought about it until you guys pointed out the durability, and also
plastic quality. I know TAG Heuer has evidently only used carbon a couple times now. Wonder
if it will be a trend, or not.
Re: TAG Heuer's Carbon Aquaracers
It will melt like plastic because it IS plastic. These watches described as "forged carbon" are nothing more than injection molded plastic with pieces of chopped up carbon fibers mixed into the resin. Think G-shock. This would help reinforce the carbon fiber and give it overall strength, if used in something like a suspension piece, but the abrasion resistance is not more than with plastic, and you run the risk of the fibers being exposed when scratched.
The good think here is that Tag has been making plastic bezel watches for a long time in their F1 line, so they should be a step ahead of other brands.
