Are you a dip-head? Jeep content.
I guess I am now. This is what people call themselves after using Plasti-dip on some project.
I recently purchased new tires for the Jeep and thought I may as well put new rims on it at the same time. The tires were scheduled to be installed a week ago Monday.
So I ordered four rims from Amazon to be delivered Saturday and Sunday last weekend. Just in time to be installed with the tires at Sam's. Well as luck would have it, one of the rims arrived bent. I sent them back as I couldn't get new one in time for the install.
So the new tires got installed on the old rims. Not without issues however. I had to take it back Friday due to a leaking valve stem. ️
So this weekend after some YouTube research I Plasti-diped my wheels. I only got two completed. I needed more time and Plasti-dip. Most recommend a whole can per wheel.
Here are the results. I'm still not sold but the family and friends I've shown it to seem to like it.

The black does look good. I never applied it but someone blacked the on my Jaguar before I bought it and was peeling so I removed it. My understanding is that if it's done properly it does last a few years without too much issue.

Love it. I'd plastidip everything.
One day I'll try it on a watch

Dipped the emblems on my accord close to 3 years ago and they’re still holding up fineTorrid wrote:The black does look good. On small items plast-dip works. On rims mine pealed really easy so they looked like shit fast. But your experience might vary for sure.

So, are you "dipping" these wheels into a vat of paint?
With regards to the emblems, did you remove them, pastidipped and then replaced on the vehicle??

It's a beautiful world! Gerald.

Its in a can like spray paint. It just dries to a very thin vinyl like coating.Axelay2003 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 12:31 pmSo, are you "dipping" these wheels into a vat of paint?

There is a can you can actually dip into as well. Might use on a tool for more grip. Pliers, etc.

No. Placed painters tape around the emblem and the places I didn’t want any paint (inside the emblem for example) and sprayedAxelay2003 wrote:So, are you "dipping" these wheels into a vat of paint?

Mine was on the wheels and the previous owner liked to curb the wheels tearing off the finish.r.palace wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 12:08 pmDipped the emblems on my accord close to 3 years ago and they’re still holding up fineTorrid wrote:The black does look good. I may do my Tacoma rims. The paint on mine is chipped pretty badly. Was thinking of buying new rims, but maybe this will work to get by for the winter.
Re: Are you a dip-head? Jeep content.
I wonder if it would be cheaper to have them restored. OEM alloy wheels are usually pretty expensive.
This shop just started following me on Instagram. I have zero experience with them, but they're sort of in your neck of the woods.

From what I've read, Toyota had some rim paint quality issues on their aluminum rims during the 2005 - 2015 or so model years. The paint just flakes off the rims and looks pretty bad.
The rims would need to be stripped and painted. If I can get them fixed for less than $200 a corner, I'll do it.

Dude, I used to live in New Haven and worked in Bridgeport CT in the early '90's. I remember watching drug deals go down on the corner across from my building and seeing the homeless people camping out under the highway overpass as I drove home. You never worked late and you never stopped at red lights after dark. It was almost routine to come in on a Monday morning and have to duct tape over bullet holes in office windows. Bridgeport was a bad town.four20 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 10:35 amGentlemen from Rye would never find themselves in SlummersworthSelym wrote:I wonder if it would be cheaper to have them restored. Scummersworth is more redneck than ghetto. I can deal with redneck.
Re: Are you a dip-head? Jeep content.
I finished the two front wheels yesterday. Let's see how long this will last.
