New arrival - Blancpain Bathyscaphe Ceramised Titanium
New arrival - Blancpain Bathyscaphe Ceramised Titanium
Hey guys! Hope you’ve all been well. Just wanted to share this “incoming” since it’s kind of a special one. I’ve wanted one of these since Adam did his initial review back in 2013.
I was pretty bummed though because right after these came out, they were quickly discontinued (at least in the material I wanted, the ceramised Ti). Less than 40 made it into the hands of consumers as Blancpain pulled production due to manufacturing costs.
A local collector-friend came across one back in April from a used dealer in Boston. I called “dibs” if he ever sold it and got the call this weekend that he was going to move it in favor of a new Rolex Sea-Dweller 50th anniversary.
Very happy with it thus far. The fit and finish is extremely high quality. Love the dial real estate and minimalism. Date at 4:30 is a nice feature and I love the large font.
Big fan of the display back with the powder coated 18k gold rotor as well. That just screams attention to detail to me! Blancpain had to be thinking “a gold rotor on this would diminish the tool watch aspect. Let’s powder coat it black”.
The dial has this cool almost pearlescent look to it as well.
120 hour power reserve and timekeeping is great through the first day at -0.3.
Only downsides I see thus far are the 23mm lugs and the extremely high strap cost. The watch did come with two straps though; one with ceramised Ti hardware and one with normal Ti. I think you can disassemble the hardware and just buy a new NATO if needed.
I’ll need to figure that out and see if anyone has a hookup on Blancpain strap discounts.

Congrats Nick! A truly special and rare bird.
Like you, I was mesmerized by Adam's review and the story about the decision to discontinue the case.
I tracked one of these down at the boutique in Chicago shortly after learning of that fact. Told them I was interested, then drove down on my lunch break to confirm it was in fact a ceramised ti case, but when I asked to see it, was told someone had already wired money and was flying in to pick it up. Hung around, and sure enough the guy showed up about 20 minutes later. He let me try it on once he understood I knew the backstory and even apologized for sniping me by an hour or so.

Very cool pick-up...congrats!
If you or anyone else knows of a good BP source for straps/NATO...I'd appreciate an update or a PM.
I'd like to get their NATO to try on the TTAL. I've got an isofrane style which I'd haven't put on yet...been busy with other things.

Congrats and thanks for sharing the new BP; it looks great!
Re: New arrival - Blancpain Bathyscaphe Ceramised Titanium
That thing is awesome, and one hell of an actual limited number. Well done.

Remarkable watch Nick !!! Really is something how it has that minimalist feel about,
but is honestly such an exciting watch all the way around ! Seriously is like having
the ocean on the wrist with the openness, and cool blue of the dial. Big congrats there !!!
