The Watch Steward elastic straps
Looks like an E.O. strap minus the E. This type of strap has been getting a lot of press lately. I imagine we will start to see a number of variants popping up as the straps increase in popularity.

The Watch Steward elastic straps
I guess it is a little different in not being a sewn loop. Less security in trade for less bulk. Plus they cost less than half of an E.O. So I am sure they will find plenty of buyers.
Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
I'm not sure that they are less bulky, they look like there is a section that is still double fabric. Probably easier to put on than the Erika straps and half the cost, although Erika uses nicer hardware with a choice of finishes, and has the stripes, etc.....
The E.O. style straps are super comfortable once you get them on. They wear like a NATO, but the little bit of stretch is nice.
I agree Terry - having the name engraved in black on the clasp is a huge turnoff for me. The way they fit you would be looking at that name all the time.

Looks very good, but hate the name on the buckle. Does it wear like a "pass-through" nato strap?

No just around the spring bars.In this pic from MarkND it is on the right.
He says it is completely US Made. I guess it is a good strap if you are just looking for another strap without the extra security.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Looks nice. I love erikas straps so I ordered one of these and I will compare the two when it arrives. I do wish the buckle was more subtle.
Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
I tried this type of strap (MN variant)- just didn't work for me. Agree about the buckle.

Would you have to wear the watch (SKX I think) on the right with the strap loop wrist opening like this?toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 6:52 amNo just around the spring bars.In this pic from MarkND it is on the right.

Couldn't you tighten the inner loop so that it was snug under the watch head, NATO-like, and take up the slack by moving the adjustment keeper up towards the 12 o'clock lug?
I guess this would only work if there wasn't too much strap length to be able to move the adjustment far enough.
I don't know if I am explaining my thought clearly, but it seems this would allow the strap to offer similar security to a NATO or Erika's strap.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
I think it is essential a Erika strap just worn differently. And a hell a lot cheaperRyeguy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:46 amWould you have to wear the watch (SKX I think) on the right with the strap loop wrist opening like this?toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 6:52 amNo just around the spring bars.In this pic from MarkND it is on the right.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Well, to answer my own question I figured I'd try one. We'll call it a $25 experiment, plus I'm supporting a Made in the USA business, so that is good.
They are only available in 22mm width, so I'll put it on either my SKX or Shogun. I'll see if I can wear it NATO style with the strap passing under the watch head or if it has to be worn as demonstrated.
If the strap could be worn NATO style for the extra security but ultimately proves too long, addressing the issue is only a pair of scissors and a sewing kit away.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Terry you should make these as a single pass-through with normal nato hardware in RAF style. Much thinner on the wrist and more comfortable, and also doesn't look like a silly bra hook on your wrist.
I got an old french parachute that came with a bunch of these elastic bands but you know where to go to get the other colors

Ordered one to try out. I have an old Orient that needs a strap.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Strap arrived today and... I think it sucks. I may take some pics tomorrow to better explain my reasoning.
Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Mine arrived as well. I think it is OK. I’ve never tried one of Erika’s so I have nothing to compare it to.
It is a challenge to figure out how to get it sized and put it on. I had to watch the video about 5 times to figure it out.
Did a trial by fire and wore it surfing tonight. It stayed on my wrist fine.
I think it would stay on even if the clasp opened, so in that sense it is fairly secure. If a spring bar failed you would lose the watch though.
Here are some pics.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Am I seeing this right. Your have to remove both spring bars to then put the strap on? With the hardware it doesn't look like any other way. If so I don't like that at all. One thing I love about Natos are the quick change ability.
Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
Yes, to mount the strap you have to remove both springbars. There is no way to slide the strap through as you can with a NATO. This is why I tried it on the Shogun - lug holes.
Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
That buckle is horrendous.

I have one headed in also. So I will share my thoughts when it arrives.

Re: The Watch Steward elastic straps
My issue with the buckle (other than the writing) is the hook is fairly short. I surfed for about 90 minutes tonight with no issues, but Erika's buckle looks to have a much longer tang which seems more secure.
I'm going to wear this a bit longer before giving a final judgement. If nothing else, it makes me a bit more interested in Erika's. If nothing else, it is comfortable and doesn't stretch when wet like a NATO can. The watch head stays centered and secure on the wrist.
