Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
Re: Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
Seiko really dropped the ball on this one. I'm hoping the next iteration of the MM300 will skew towards the 6159 more than they already do, but I'm not holding my breath.
Re: Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
I'm still interested in it, I have the 6159-7001, so I feel compelled to get it either way, for collector's purposes. I'm currently on a pre-order...but if they have them in stock at the Miami Seiko boutique, maybe I'll contact them. Do you recall how many they received?CGSshorty wrote:I tried the reissue on at the Seiko boutique yesterday. It is absolutely gorgeous, but surprisingly enormous. It is way too thick, even for me.

Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
I also have an original 6159-7001 and that's one of the main reasons that I felt compelled to purchase it. The 6159-7001 is one of my favorite Seiko watches. If you get a chance to try it on, I'd love to hear how you think it compares to the original.2thvet wrote:I'm still interested in it, I have the 6159-7001, so I feel compelled to get it either way, for collector's purposes. I don’t know how many they have, but I got the feeling it is more than one.2thvet wrote:I'm still interested in it, I have the 6159-7001, so I feel compelled to get it either way, for collector's purposes. Borrowed pictures, but next to the MM300 it's big. I didn't think the original 6159 was that thick??

Those photos don’t even begin to show how silly it looks on the wrist. I should have taken a photo.

Oh I’m sorry. It’s $5400.

I think it hit me how impractical this watch would be, when you mentioned strap options. It looks like the same 19mm silicone waffle as the 62MAS reissue (but apparently has a different part number). Either way, the strap looks undersized for the giant monocoque case. No strap or bracelet options on a $5,400 Seiko is ridiculous.

That’s the only angle that looks good, unfortunately.husabergangola wrote:

I don't have a side by side pic but it looks like the newer versions sits flatter on the wrist than the MM. But then they made it taller. The MM had a stepped caseback on it.

Chris, have you tried on the SBEX001? That one was wayyyy worse.

They had one at the boutique. I should have tried it on for a goof.

Re: Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
The design (by itself) looks great. Doable with 8" wrists but yet another FAIL by Seiko on the most important reissue they're done yet. I just don't understand it...? Why not make it </= MM300 specs? It's borderline disheartening as a longtime Seiko collector and fanboy. "Borderline" in that my money can go elsewhere...
Speaking of elsewhere, I've been loving my SSBS018 from '94. This is where it's at for those who want big but still tasteful watch. But as everyone here knows a lug-less 1000m tuna may as well be a 43.5mm PO, but still works great on my 6.75" wrist.

Re: Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
Well, my SLA025 is landing tomorrow. I have a small wrist size, 6.5", so I'll be sure to post wrist shots of it, so those contemplating it can better judge for themselves. I'm a collector of these pieces, and I wanted it alongside my vintage 6159-7001, so, I'm not even sure how much wrist time it will get. So, even if it looks ridiculous, it'll still hold a place in my watch box.

If you had corduroy pants on it would have fit better

Re: Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!
It's a few days in for me. The watch is growing on me. Just like with the SLA017 though, I'm not the biggest fan of the metal keeper. They should have gone with a silicone double keeper. I know that the silicone keepers can get a little sticky, but I'd think it would match better. Seiko got lazy and didn't invest in another strap design. A recreation of the XGL strap would have been nice, but that would have cost too much :-o
