Those are sweet, RMM. Almost as many bargain DRSDs from ‘74!

Yeah this stuff gets pretty stupid pretty fast.

The ‘68 GMT package I picked up was “valued” by a fairly respectable dealer in vintage watches at $40-60k.

I was looking for a few years for my own birth year Sub and have since waved off of that pretty quickly with the prices what they are. I’m telling myself that my GMT wears both hats for me.

The other thing that absolutely scares me to death is the likelihood that *a majority* of “vintage” watches out there are frankenwatches. I’ve been hanging out on TRF Vintage quite a bit since getting the GMT and the stories there are absolutely frightening: UNLESS the watches (like mine) are 100% verifiable, one owner types, that haven’t been out in the sales world hopping around.

So I, personally, wouldn’t even entertain a vintage birth year Sub for me unless I actually knew the seller. Like personally knew them - like I was buying my uncles watch or something. Everything else seems shady as fuck most times.

The market for vintage and modern Rolex has gone absolutely batshit insane in the last year or so. There are several watches I wish I had either purchased or held onto if I had only known.

Looking for vintage Rolex? Consider a Datejust. They’re still reasonably priced. If you can deal with the smaller size.

And, as Matt points out, there are a lot of Frankens and fakes out there. Sometimes the seller doesn’t even know.

was really more interested in birth year but these prizes caught my eye - I knew the market was pushing up but these shocked me.

actually I'm nearing my Rolex Saturation point with the LV Kermit, Polar EXP and DSSD since the 1st of the year.

Hold on to the Kermit if you still have it.

I've done amazingly over the past five years with vintage Rolex.

A lot of 5513 subs were (first generation meters first matte dials) and 1675s with matte dials were manufactures in 1967. The dials on these are pretty unique with green lume that still glows briefly.

Beyond the watxhes themselves, I am amazed at the price of bits..... $2k for a crown, $25k for a dial, $10k for gilt hand sets, $12k bezels..... it's all Cray Cray
